Peko Pekoyama originates from the Danganronpa franchise, appearing across games and anime. Abandoned as a baby, she was adopted by the Kuzuryu yakuza clan. Raised alongside heir Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu, she underwent rigorous training as his personal bodyguard and enforcer, instilled with the belief she exists solely as a "tool" for his protection and the clan's interests. This forged her stoic, emotionally reserved demeanor and strict adherence to duty.
Her title, Ultimate Swordswoman, signifies exceptional mastery of kenjutsu and swordsmanship honed since early childhood. She carries a shinai concealing a metal blade, employing it with precision in combat and protection. Despite her intimidating presence, she possesses a gentle affection for animals, particularly pandas, though animals often fear her intense aura. She also engages in reading and playing fighting games, revealing facets beyond her combat role.
As a student in Hope's Peak Academy's Class 77-B, she continued serving Fuyuhiko while concealing their connection. During this time, she suppressed romantic feelings for him, planning a confession after escaping a simulated killing game. However, she previously participated in the "Twilight Syndrome Murder Case," killing a student ("Girl E") under Fuyuhiko’s orders prior to the academy’s tragedy.
Following the global despair outbreak orchestrated by Junko Enoshima, Peko fell under her brainwashing, becoming a Remnant of Despair. She engaged in worldwide violence as part of Ultimate Despair, adopting white attire and openly wielding a metal katana. Captured by the Future Foundation, she entered the Neo World Program for rehabilitation. Within this simulation, believing it would secure Fuyuhiko's escape, she killed Mahiru Koizumi with a baseball bat to protect him from culpability. During the subsequent class trial, she framed Hiyoko Saionji but was exposed and executed by Monokuma via the "One Woman Army" method.
After the simulation, Peko fell into a coma alongside other Remnants. In the *Hope Arc*, she awakens and is restored to her pre-despair state through Hajime Hinata’s intervention. She joins her classmates in confronting Ryota Mitarai to halt a global brainwashing broadcast, demonstrating commitment to atonement. Her survival is confirmed, with an implied return to serving Fuyuhiko and the Kuzuryu clan under a potentially redefined relationship.
Key traits encompass her self-identification as a "tool," unwavering loyalty to Fuyuhiko, philosophical view of violence as necessity, and stern yet polite demeanor. Her development culminates in rejecting Junko’s despair ideology and participating in restorative actions, while her core dedication to Fuyuhiko persists.
