Maurice Baudelaire, a Knight Templar of Hortensia, fought in the capital's defense during Duke Rugis Camellia's violent rebellion. This uprising killed the king and plunged the kingdom into chaos. In the fighting, Maurice lost his right eye and saw his brother, Fernando Albert, slain by a werewolf. Escaping the capital amidst the turmoil, Maurice carried Fernando's sword and a young boy named Marius Casterede.
Marius was secretly Princess Mariel D'Hortensia, the last royal survivor. To safeguard her identity, Maurice journeyed to the Albert Dominion, lands ruled by his late brother's family. He delivered Fernando's sword to his nephew, Alfred Albert, honoring his brother's legacy. Recognizing the persistent danger to the princess and the kingdom, Maurice stayed at the Albert estate. He trained both Alfred and the disguised Marius in combat for several years, preparing them for coming conflicts.
After this training, Maurice continued to accompany and support Alfred and Marius as they confronted threats to Hortensia, including the schemes of Pope Vall d'Hebron and the lingering menace of Duke Rugis. He often provided crucial guidance and acted as a voice of reason within their group. Maurice fought in key battles against the Ecclesiastical Knights and Vall d'Hebron. He survived the final confrontations, witnessing the defeat of the primary antagonists and Princess Mariel's restoration to her throne.
