Movie
Description
Stern originated on the planet Eltria, living as a cat alongside companions Levi and Dearche with scientist Yuri Eberwein and his artificial intelligence Iris. Approximately 40 years prior to the main events, during a confrontation between Yuri and another scientist, Phil Maxwell, Stern bit Phil's shoulder in an attempt to protect Yuri. Yuri subsequently instructed the cats to hide inside the Book of Darkness (Tome of the Night Sky). Trapped within the tome and never released, Stern and the others eventually perished inside it.

In the movie continuity, Stern materialized as a humanoid entity during the Dark Fragment Incident in the year 0067. This form, emerging from pages of the Tome of the Night Sky, referenced Takamachi Nanoha's appearance and magical capabilities. Her materialization stemmed from the tome's lingering energies and the unresolved fates of the absorbed cats. Unlike her original feline state, this form possessed human-like cognition and advanced combat abilities.

Stern maintains a calm and polite demeanor, rarely displaying overt emotions. Despite this outward composure, she exhibits a passionate inner resolve, particularly dedicated to objectives involving Yuri or Iris. Her interactions combine formal speech with underlying intensity, reflecting a focus on mission completion over personal expression. This personality persists across appearances, though her motivations shift based on context.

Physically, Stern resembles Nanoha with distinct differences: shorter brown hair instead of auburn, light blue eyes with perpetually contracted pupils, and a slighter build. Her primary attire is the "Heat Suit," a vermillion-colored Barrier Jacket featuring chest armor plating. This suit integrates the "Blast Claw," a gauntlet-like weapon equipped on her left arm for close-quarters combat. Her magic manifests as deep red or vermillion energy, often accompanied by fiery visual effects during spellcasting.

In combat, Stern utilizes the Blast Claw for direct assaults and possesses proficiency in bombardment magic. Her spells include fiery versions adapted from Nanoha's arsenal, such as "Pyro Shooter" for projectile attacks and "Blast Fire" for area bombardment. She demonstrates high tactical intelligence, frequently analyzing opponents' capabilities during engagements. Her fighting style blends ranged magical assaults with swift melee strikes enabled by the Blast Claw.

Within the narrative of "Reflection," Stern appears in the latter segments alongside Levi and Dearche. Their arrival coincides with escalating conflicts at the Allston Sea facility, where they confront both protagonists and antagonists. A notable encounter involves a beam clash with Nanoha, halted only by external barrier intervention. Her primary narrative function is to establish stakes for the sequel, "Detonation," positioning her group as emerging threats. Her background ties directly to Yuri Eberwein's past actions, framing her involvement as part of a broader quest for resolution regarding their shared history.

Her development remains unresolved within "Reflection," with key motivations—such as her precise objectives toward Yuri or Iris—deliberately withheld for exploration in "Detonation." The film concludes during an active battle involving Stern, leaving her ultimate alignment and fate ambiguous.
