Description
Zafira is a Wolkenritter, a creation of the Book of Darkness serving as its "Guard Beast of the Shield" and known as the "Blue Wolf." This centuries-old entity originates from the Ancient Belkan Era. He manifests as a large blue wolf capable of shapeshifting into a muscular, dark-skinned humanoid form featuring wolf ears and a tail. Though similar to Midchildan familiars, he identifies distinctly as a "guard beast," existing independently without a familiar's contract. His existence depends on the Book of Darkness, and later his mistress Hayate Yagami, shared with the other Wolkenritter.

During the Book of Darkness incident, Zafira battled to collect Linker Cores. He intervened in conflicts involving Nanoha Takamachi and her allies, retreating after initial engagements and later confronting opponents like Alph. On Christmas Eve, separated from his comrades during a hospital visit to Hayate, he discovered the aftermath of an attack by masked assailants. Attempting to defend his comrades, he was defeated and had his Linker Core absorbed. Restored to life by Hayate, he aided in immobilizing and destroying the Book of Darkness's corrupted Defense Program in the final battle.

Afterward, Zafira learned to assume a puppy form to conserve mana and blend in on Earth, though this form attracted unwanted attention from children. He officially registered with the Time-Space Administration Bureau in May 0066 alongside the other Wolkenritter. During Hayate's rehabilitation, he provided transportation as she relearned to walk, extending this assistance to Nanoha during her recovery from injuries in 0067–68.

In *StrikerS*, Zafira served in Riot Force 6 under Hayate, undertaking missions and assisting in childcare duties for Vivio. When Jail Scaglietti's allies attacked a TSAB press conference, he and Shamal defended the Long Arch but were overwhelmed by Otto and Deed; Zafira sustained severe injuries shielding Shamal and remained unconscious for days. Upon recovery, he monitored Vice Granscenic, rejoined the conflict, and aided in Otto's capture during the final battle.

Post-*StrikerS*, Zafira supported Battalion 108 in investigations and collaborated with Ginga Nakajima. He established the "Yagami Dojo" near the Yagami residence in southern Mid-Childa, teaching "Yagami-style" Strike Arts to local children. His students included participants in the 0079 DSAA Intermiddle Championship, like Miura Rinaldi. In his spare time, he continued instructing neighborhood children in martial arts.

In the movie continuity (*Reflection* and *Detonation*), Zafira retained his core role but utilized Caledfwlch-made gauntlets as combat equipment, leading to minor design modifications in his knight clothing like the removal of his original gauntlets. He provided rear support during battles at Allston Sea theme park, assisting allies against Kyrie Florian's group.

Zafira leverages his dual forms in combat: his wolf form employs fangs and claws, while his humanoid form utilizes martial arts enhanced by heavy gauntlets and boots designed by Hayate. His known spells include **Panzerschild**, a shield defense, and **Steel Yoke**, an AA-rank capture spell. He also uses dimensional transfer, extermination, and barrier spells. Techniques like **Raging Steel Fang** and **Running Fang-Beast** appear in game adaptations.

Personality-wise, Zafira is characteristically calm, serious, and taciturn, speaking sparingly unless necessary. He demonstrates protectiveness toward comrades, as seen shielding Shamal. Despite initial discomfort with children's attention during his puppy-form interactions, he forms strong bonds with them.
