TV-Series
Description
Zafira belongs to the Wolkenritter, a group created by the Book of Darkness. He possesses a unique existence as a "Guard Beast," distinct from standard Midchildan familiars. He lacks a familiar's contract and relies on the Book of Darkness, and later his mistress Hayate Yagami, for his continued existence like the other Wolkenritter. His titles are "Guard Beast of the Shield" and "Blue Wolf."
His primary form is a large blue wolf. He can also shapeshift into a muscular, dark-skinned humanoid form featuring wolf ears and a tail. In combat, he employs Knight Clothing designed by Hayate Yagami, consisting of heavy metal gauntlets and boots that enhance his defense and striking power in both forms. Utilizing the Ancient Belka magic system at an estimated AA rank, his notable spells include the capture-type "Steel Yoke" (AA) and the defensive "Panzerschild."
Zafira exhibits a calm, serious, and taciturn personality, speaking sparingly. Though initially uncomfortable with attention, he shows a strong affinity for children and frequently interacts with them.
During *A's*, Zafira battles Nanoha Takamachi and her allies, including interventions against Alph. Defeated on Christmas Eve, the Book of Darkness's Masked Men absorb his Linker Core; Hayate later revives him. Post-incident, Alph teaches him to assume a puppy form to conserve mana and blend in on Earth, a form he regularly uses despite drawing attention.
After *A's*, he formally registers with the Time-Space Administration Bureau alongside the other Wolkenritter in May 0066. He aids Hayate during her rehabilitation and provides similar support to Nanoha during her recovery from injuries sustained between 0067 and 0068. By *StrikerS*, he joins Riot Force 6, undertaking missions and often assisting in childcare for Vivio. Severely wounded protecting Shamal during an attack by Jail Scaglietti's forces, he later participates in the final battle, aiding in Otto's capture. Post-*StrikerS*, he assists Battalion 108 and Ginga Nakajima in investigations and teaches martial arts to local children on his days off.
In *ViVid*, Zafira establishes and operates the "Yagami Dojo" near the Yagami residence in southern Mid-Childa, instructing neighborhood children in "Yagami-style" Strike Arts. His students include Miura Rinaldi, one of his strongest disciples who competes in the DSAA Intermiddle Championship. He appears briefly in *Force* alongside Shamal.
In alternative continuities, the *Movie* series (*Reflection* and *Detonation*) depicts him with slightly modified Knight Clothing, wielding Caledfwlch-made gauntlets as combat equipment during battles against Kyrie Florian's group. Video games like *The Battle of Aces* and *The Gears of Destiny* feature him as a playable character using spells such as "Guard Fist," "Fang-Wolf Kick," and "Raging Steel Fang." The *INNOCENT* spin-off reimagines him as "Zafila Yagami," a speaking pet wolf guarding the Yagami family and operating around Old Bookshop Yagamidō; during *Brave Duel* games within this continuity, he transforms into a humanoid form specializing in defensive abilities.
