Description
Tomohito Sugino, a student in Kunugigaoka Junior High School's Class 3-E, was transferred following his removal from the school baseball club due to relatively slow pitches, which diminished his academic motivation. He possesses short, spiked black hair, dark blue eyes, and a typical middle-schooler design, considered the most conventional among male classmates. He wears the standard school uniform with grey trousers, a black-buckled belt, and distinctive red baseball-logo wristbands, choosing white sneakers over school loafers.

Sugino displays an energetic, friendly, and approachable personality, easily forming bonds. He remains deeply passionate about baseball, dedicating significant effort to strategy and practice. Initial self-doubt about his athletic talent lessened after Korosensei analyzed his pitching mechanics, revealing greater wrist and elbow flexibility compared to professional pitcher Arita, despite weaker shoulder configuration. This spurred Sugino to develop breaking balls, curveballs, and changeups that altered pitch speed, integrating these skills into assassination attempts like embedding anti-sensei pellets into baseballs or throwing rocks during combat. Academically, his grades fluctuated: he scored 300 points (115th place) in the first mid-term but rose dramatically to 402 points (41st place) by the end of the first trimester, showing notable progress in mathematics. Korosensei emphasized English proficiency for his potential Major League aspirations.

Throughout Class 3-E, Sugino participated in key events. On a school trip to Kyoto, he invited his crush, Yukiko Kanzaki, to join an assassination planning group, though a kidnapping thwarted his chance to confess. In a pivotal baseball game against his former club, captained by ex-teammate Kazutaka Shindo, Sugino's leadership and Class E's tactics secured a win; he later reconciled with Shindo, expressing pride in his new friendships over outright victory. He ranked third in knifework among Class 3-E boys and demonstrated aptitude in acting, earning praise for a lead role alongside Kanzaki in a dark school play. His assassination skills were assessed as well-rounded, with above-average execution and leadership capabilities.

Sugino maintained close relationships, particularly trusting Nagisa Shiota as his catcher during the baseball tournament and often walking to school with him. His unreciprocated feelings for Kanzaki led to moments like his delighted reaction to obligatory Valentine's chocolate. He initially judged Karma Akabane warily due to a violent reputation but grew to accept him through Nagisa's influence. During Class E's schism over Korosensei's fate, Sugino joined Nagisa's faction in a paintball battle but was eliminated early. In the final semester, he researched ways to save Korosensei and participated in the class's escape from government custody, using rock-throwing tactics to subdue mercenaries.

After graduation, Sugino pursued baseball at the Japanese collegiate level, refined curveballs and varied pitches to professional caliber, attracting scout attention. His development involved overcoming insecurity, valuing teamwork, and balancing assassination training with athletic and academic growth.
