Description
Chloe von Einzbern, often called by her nickname Kuro, is a central figure introduced in Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei. She emerges as a physical entity split from the main protagonist, Illyasviel von Einzbern. Her origin is rooted in Illya's infancy, when her mother, Irisviel, sealed away a significant portion of Illya's magical energy, memories, and knowledge to grant her a normal life, free from her destiny as a vessel for the Holy Grail. Over many years, these sealed-off aspects developed their own consciousness and, following a mishap during a magical ritual, were able to manifest as a separate person using the power of an Archer-class Servant card.
In appearance, Chloe is nearly identical to Illya, leading most people to mistake them for the same person. However, she is distinguished by her lightly tanned or darker skin, silver-white hair, and orange eyes. Her chosen combat attire is a more revealing version of the red outfit worn by the Archer servant EMIYA, which sometimes draws comments for being provocative. For everyday life, she typically wears a school uniform or casual clothes like a tank top.
Personality-wise, Chloe is a stark contrast to Illya. She is cunning, bold, confident, and possesses a sharp, analytical mind. She is often described as more pragmatic and manipulative, with a mischievous and sometimes provocative streak that leads her to say and do things Illya would never dare. This includes openly expressing her affection for their older brother, Shirou Emiya, which she does to tease Illya. Despite her tough exterior, she harbors deep-seated bitterness and resentment stemming from her origin as a sealed-away existence, interpreting her creation as a rejection of her very being. Her initial motivations are driven by a desperate desire to survive and a need to resolve her own existence. Because she is an independent magical entity without a stable mana supply of her own, she must constantly absorb magical energy from others. Her primary and most efficient method for this is through direct lip contact, leading to many comedic yet chaotic situations as she pursues her preferred targets, which include Illya, her friend Miyu, and even their teacher, Taiga Fujimura.
Chloes role in the story begins as an antagonist and a source of conflict. Upon her emergence, she initially seeks to eliminate Illya, believing that only one of them can truly exist. This brings her into direct conflict with Illya, her friends, and their magus mentors, Rin Tohsaka and Luviagelita Edelfelt. Over time, she transitions from a rival to a crucial ally and an integral member of the main group, often acting as a more ruthless and experienced fighter compared to the more hesitant Illya.
Her key relationships define her development significantly. Her bond with Illyasviel is the most complex, starting as hostile rivalry but evolving into a protective, sisterly dynamic filled with teasing and bickering. She shares a notably strong and loyal friendship with Miyu Edelfelt, often prioritizing her safety above all else, even the fate of a world. She is shown to care for her adoptive family, including her mother Irisviel, who formally accepts her as a daughter, and her brother Shirou, for whom she has an open and uncomplicated affection. She also forms important alliances with powerful figures like Bazett Fraga McRe Remitz and the young Gilgamesh in later battles.
Chloes character arc centers on her search for identity and acceptance. Initially consumed by bitterness and a will to live, she eventually comes to a resolution with Illya, who accepts her as a part of herself and expresses a desire for her to live. This acceptance, combined with Chloe's own wish to exist, stabilizes her form and prevents her from fading away. Irisviel then adopts her into the Einzbern family as Illyasviels cousin, giving her a place in the world and fulfilling her hidden wish for a normal life.
Notable abilities are derived from the Archer-class card that she absorbed upon her creation, which is linked to the heroic spirit EMIYA. As a result, she is a highly proficient combatant specializing in projection magecraft. This allows her to create replicated weapons, from simple swords to complex Noble Phantasms. Her favored weapons are the twin swords Kanshou and Bakuya, which she can wield with great skill or enhance into larger forms called Overedge. She can also project other powerful weapons like Caladbolg II and Hrunting, using them as arrows. Her combat style is tactical and ruthless, employing teleportation and keen analytical skills, known as Mind's Eye (False), to outmaneuver opponents. Her unique Noble Phantasm is called Kakuyoku Sanren, or Triple-Linked Crane Wings, a powerful close-quarters anti-unit attack. However, a crucial vulnerability is the magical seal that links her existence to Illya, forcing them to share physical pain and sensations.
