Alain is a tall, slender teenager with disheveled black hair and piercing blue eyes. His attire consists of baggy gray pants, a black leather jacket, rugged boots, a blue shirt layered over a white undershirt, fingerless gloves, and a pale blue scarf patterned after Mega Charizard X’s fiery aura. Over time, his clothing transitions to a more tailored fit while retaining its core elements.
Originally assisting Professor Sycamore in Lumiose City, Alain’s obsession with Mega Evolution drove him to hunt Mega Stones. During this pursuit, he found a wounded Gible that Sycamore rehabilitated, later evolving it into Garchomp. Lysandre recruited Alain by gifting him a Key Stone and Charizardite X, securing his aid in Mega Evolution research. This alliance sent Alain through Kalos and Hoenn, challenging Mega Evolution trainers to compile battle data for Lysandre’s initiatives.
In Hoenn, Alain crossed paths with Champion Steven Stone, sparking a duel between their Mega-Evolved Charizard X and Metagross. Lysandre abruptly halted their clash, redirecting Alain to investigate a Giant Rock connected to Mega Evolution’s genesis. Activating the artifact provoked an assault by Mega Rayquaza, during which Alain shielded his companion Mairin from harm. Though their friendship deepened, Alain distanced himself, convinced her company weakened his resolve to grow stronger.
Team Flare’s plot to weaponize the Giant Rock’s energy fractured Alain’s allegiance. Witnessing Mairin’s despair over her comatose Chespie and confronting his complicity in Lysandre’s machinations, he defected, joining Ash’s coalition to dismantle the organization. Post-crisis, he reconciled with Mairin and returned to Sycamore’s lab, dedicating himself to redemption through Mega Evolution studies.
His team centers on Charizard, which Mega Evolves into Charizard X, supported by Bisharp, Chesnaught, and Malamar. Alain employs a fiercely strategic battle philosophy, chasing victory to affirm his strength. Despite his aloof exterior, he fiercely guards those he cares about, a trait that fueled his defiance against Team Flare and Legendary Pokémon threats.
Alain triumphed over Ash in the Kalos League finals, claiming the Champion title. His prowess earned him the sixth rank in the World Coronation Series’ Master Class. Through repeated battles with Ash, their rivalry matured into mutual admiration, reflecting Alain’s journey from isolated power-seeker to a warrior acknowledging the weight of bonds and second chances.
