Description
Hyōgo Otoo is the general manager and founder of the family restaurant Wagnaria. He is a man of about thirty years with a consistently kind, patient, and gentle demeanor, rarely if ever displaying anger even in the most trying situations. His personality is defined by an almost unfailing devotion to his family, specifically his wife, Haruna Otoo.

Despite holding the highest rank at the restaurant, Otoo is almost never present for work. His entire existence revolves around a single, all-consuming motivation: searching for his missing wife. Haruna has a catastrophically poor sense of direction and disappeared during a simple shopping trip, often resorting to navigating through unconventional routes such as sewer lines. As a result, Otoo travels across the country looking for her, leaving the management and daily operations of his own restaurant almost entirely in the hands of the shift manager, Kyouko Shirafuji.

Because he is perpetually traveling, Otoo only appears at Wagnaria occasionally. On these brief visits, his role is often that of a traveler bringing back strange souvenirs from his journeys, such as foreign candy, ugly masks, or, on one notable occasion, a stray girl named Aoi Yamada. His presence in the restaurant is described as being very faint, like "air" or even "less than air," a trait that ironically prevents the androphobic Mahiru Inami from perceiving him as a threat and reacting with violence.

His key relationships are largely defined by his absence and his unwavering search for his wife. He has a mutually dependent but unusual relationship with Kyouko Shirafuji. He relies on her to manage the restaurant while he is gone, though she rarely does any actual work and primarily views him as a source of free food souvenirs. He lives in fear of the kitchen assistant, Yachiyo Todoroki, who frequently threatens him with a katana for bringing food to the lazy Shirafuji.

His most complex relationship is with Aoi Yamada, the girl he found on the streets and brought to work at Wagnaria. Yamada developed a strong attachment to him due to his kindness, viewing him as an "ideal father" and constantly pleading for him to officially adopt her. While Otoo patiently tolerates this, he maintains clear boundaries due to his marriage. Ironically, Yamada becomes one of the most important people in his life because she possesses a unique ability to find Haruna when she gets lost, a skill for which he is deeply grateful.

A significant development in his story occurs when he is finally reunited with his wife, Haruna, an event facilitated by Aoi Yamada. This reunion provides a resolution to his long-standing quest, allowing him to stop his endless travels. However, due to his wife's persistent nature, the potential for her to wander off and get lost again remains. Aside from this devotion, Otoo does not display any flashy abilities. His most notable trait is his efficient work capability; when he does choose to be present, he is known to be highly competent and capable of clearing a backlog of overdue tasks in a very short time.
