TV-Series
Description
Popura Taneshima, a 17-year-old high school student, works at Wagnaria family restaurant, transitioning from waitress to Chief of Staff by the series’ conclusion. Her petite frame—1.4 meters initially, later 1.41 meters—fuels frequent misidentification as a younger student, sparking recurring irritation. This insecurity drives daily height checks and hidden elevator shoes, a vulnerability coworker Hiroomi Souma leverages to delegate his duties.
Cheerful and harmony-driven, she mediates conflicts and fosters camaraderie, balancing an air of obliviousness with surprising insight. Though unaware of Jun Satou’s feelings for Yachiyo Todoroki, she detects Yachiyo’s affection for Satou before Yachiyo herself. Her dynamic with Souta Takanashi intertwines admiration and friction: she idolizes his cross-dressing persona "Kotori" and envies his family’s height, yet bristles at his teasing over her size.
Named after the poplar tree by parents hoping for stature, she ironically remains shorter than both her father, a public servant, and homemaker mother. Workplace challenges include enduring Jun’s hair-teasing antics and Kyouko Shirafuji shielding her from dismissive customers.
Her growth culminates in a promotion to Chief of Staff and a slight height increase, paralleling a shift in admiration from Kotori to Souta’s tall female relatives, reflecting her yearning to be seen as mature. She actively bridges divides, like coaxing interactions between Mahiru Inami and Souta to ease Mahiru’s androphobia, embodying both supportive ally and well-intentioned meddler.
