Description
Kanzo Hattori, also called Hattori, is the main protagonist of the franchise. He is an 11-year-old ninja from the Iga Clan, standing about 140 cm tall and weighing 40 kg. His fair skin, acorn-shaped eyes, and distinctive cheek spirals define his appearance. He always wears a blue hood and blue ninja robes—an outer blue hoodie shirt with a v-neck and folded sleeves, a yellow cross-shaped full-sleeved inner garment, blue pajama pants, a red ribbon belt, and Japanese sandals. A steel sword is strapped to his back, adorned with a white ribbon.

He is the son of Jinchu Hattori and Mrs. Hattori, and the older brother of Shinzo Hattori. He owns a ninja dog named Shishimaru and is a descendant of the historical ninja Hattori Hanzo. After departing his home in the Iga Mountains, he moved to Tokyo to live with the Mitsuba family, becoming a foster brother to Kenichi Mitsuba and viewing Taeko and Kentaro Mitsuba as his foster parents. This arrangement started when he arrived in Tokyo for training and was welcomed into their home.

Hattori’s personality is strict, by-the-book, and leadership-oriented. He holds himself and others to high standards, frequently aiding his friend Kenichi with various problems despite occasional reluctance. He possesses a strong sense of justice, discipline, and responsibility, and is pragmatic, logical, and detail-oriented with perfectionist tendencies. He can be self-critical and critical of others when expectations go unmet. Though generally reserved and serious, he cares deeply for family and friends. He is shy around girls, especially Tsubame, a kunoichi who likes him and whom he secretly likes in return. He fears frogs, a weakness that often causes trouble, dislikes train rides, and used to wet the bed as a child.

A highly skilled ninja, he is proficient in techniques including the Numeral Erasing Technique, Hypnotism Technique, Walking On The Wall Technique, Technique Of Sleeping Anywhere At Anytime, Ninja Puppet Technique, Wind Transfer Technique, Smokescreen Technique, Speed Writing Technique, Flying Squirrel Technique, Blowing Leaves Onto Oneself technique, Walking On Water Technique, Disguise Technique, and Personality Changing Technique. He is adept with weapons like shurikens and his steel sword. Beyond ninjutsu, he excels in dueling, engineering, and cooking, and has a resilient will that resists surrender. He often uses catchphrases like "Ding Ding!" and "Tough times commando shines!" or its Hindi equivalent, "Mushkil waqt, commando sakht!"

His relationships are central to his life. He maintains close ties with his parents through letters and gifts despite the distance. He is protective yet sometimes overbearing toward his younger brother Shinzo; though they argue, they support each other. He generally likes his ninja dog Shishimaru but is occasionally annoyed by the dog’s laziness and greed. With the Mitsuba family, he shares a strong bond with Kenichi, consistently helping him despite Kenichi’s laziness and occasional deceit, and shows respect and gratitude toward Kenichi’s parents.

Among his friends, Yumeko Kawai often asks for his advice, which he readily gives. He secretly returns the romantic feelings of Tsubame, another ninja. He has three other ninja friends who appear occasionally: a short ninja in brown robes, a tall thin ninja in purple robes, and a plump ninja in orange robes. His main rival is Kemuzou Kemumaki, a ninja from the Koga Clan. Their relationship is fiercely competitive and adversarial, though they have assisted each other on rare instances. Hattori also rivals Kemumaki’s ninja cat, Kagechiyo, who sometimes shows greater loyalty to Hattori.

Hattori was trained in the peaceful Iga village. His journey brought him to Tokyo, where he lives with the Mitsuba family, attends school, and continues ninja training. His activities focus on helping Kenichi with personal and school troubles, shielding him from Kemumaki’s plots, and balancing modern life with traditional ninja values.
