Description
Chrono Harlaown is the son of Lindy Harlaown and the late Clyde Harlaown. His father's death during an earlier investigation of the Book of Darkness profoundly shaped Chrono's youth, resulting in a stiff and taciturn demeanor. Following Clyde's death, Clyde's close friend Gil Graham arranged for his familiars, the Liese twins Aria and Lotte, to train Chrono in magic from age five.
During the events of "A's," Chrono serves as Executive Officer of the Time-Space Administration Bureau (TSAB) aboard the spaceship Arthra under his mother's command. His personal connection to the Book of Darkness incident proves significant. He uncovers that his former mentors, the Liese twins, and their master Gil Graham are secretly aiding the Wolkenritter to complete the Book, intending to seal it and its master in a prison universe after full activation. Chrono arrests them for this illegal plan, arguing it risks the Book escaping and being abused.
In the climax of "A's," Chrono plays a key tactical role orchestrating the destruction of the Book of Darkness' autonomous Defense Program. He wields his father's legacy, the Device Durandal, specializing in ice-based magic. His spells include Eternal Coffin, an S+-ranked area bombardment spell designed to encase targets in eternal frozen stasis rather than cause death. His combat style is categorized as "Standalone Generic," focusing on precision and efficiency with Storage Devices like S2U and Durandal, requiring no complex incantations. Despite a relatively low natural mana capacity, he compensates with exceptional tactical acumen, stealth, and versatility in binds, shooting spells, and temperature manipulation.
Following "A's," Chrono advances to Admiral by age 20 (six years later), assuming command of the Arthra after Lindy's retirement. He marries former colleague Amy Limietta, and they have twins named Karel and Liera. In "StrikerS," he captains the XV-class warship Claudia and remains one of only two individuals authorized to lift Hayate Yagami's Capacity Limiter. He participates in major operations, including leading the TSAB fleet against the Saint's Cradle.
In alternate continuities, the "INNOCENT" spin-off depicts Chrono as an ordinary middle school student at Private Tenō Middle School, viewed as an elder brother by the Testarossa sisters. He participates in the "Brave Duel" game using avatars like "Executioner," wielding either S2U or Durandal, the latter enabling ice-based skills. Film adaptations ("The MOVIE 2nd A's") streamline his involvement, omitting Graham and the Liese twins but retaining his strategic role against the Book's Defense Program. A notable change features Lindy wielding Durandal as a memento of Clyde, while Chrono's use of spells like Stinger Blade Execution Shift remains consistent.
His broader background includes the adoption of Fate Testarossa into the Harlaown family after the first season, making Fate his stepsister. This familial bond extends into later media like "ViVid," where he is referenced as part of Fate's support system.
