Description
Hibiki Hōjō is a second-year student at Private Aria Academy in Kanon Town. She excels in athletics and assists multiple sports clubs, though she struggles academically and initially dislikes music. This aversion stems from childhood trauma: her father, a music teacher, harshly dismissed her substitute piano recital performance as "false music," causing her to abandon music for years, despite her mother being a violinist. Energetic and justice-driven, Hibiki possesses a sensitive side, vulnerable to loneliness and manipulation due to her naivety. As an only child, she envies her friend Kanade's sibling relationship and enthusiastically befriends younger characters like Ako Shirabe. Hibiki enjoys sweets, particularly from Kanade's family bakery, though her habit of sneaking treats often causes conflicts.

Hibiki transforms into Cure Melody, the lead warrior of the Suite Pretty Cure team, using the pink Fairy Tone Dory. Her catchphrase is "Strumming the wild tune, Cure Melody!" In this form, her auburn hair becomes light pink and extends into curled twin-tails. Her pink and white themed costume features ruffles, a tutu skirt, and a rabbit-ear bow headband. She wields the Miracle Belltier weapon, activated with the Fairy Tone Miry, performing attacks like Passionato Harmony (with Cure Rhythm), Music Rondo, and Miracle Heart Arpeggio. Later, she achieves two upgraded forms: Super Cure Melody gains angelic wings and a lengthened dress, while Crescendo Cure Melody features feather-adorned attire and larger wings, introduced with the phrase "Strumming the heart's tune, Crescendo Cure Melody!" These forms enable the combined attack Suite Session Ensemble Crescendo Finale.

Her character development centers on reconciling with music and repairing relationships. She and Kanade mend a childhood friendship fractured by a misunderstanding under cherry blossom trees, enabling their initial Pretty Cure transformation. Hibiki eventually comprehends her father's critique, realizing music requires joy, and resumes piano practice with Kanade, aspiring to become a pianist. Her kindness helps redeem Siren (later Cure Beat) from villainy, and she persistently befriends the initially cold Cure Muse (Ako Shirabe), unaware of Ako's royal heritage from Major Land.

In a sequel novel set a year after the series, Hibiki faces challenges planning to move to Germany for music studies. Her separation anxiety and feelings of abandonment make her vulnerable to brainwashing by Vanish, a dark entity from Major Land's past causing mass disappearances in Kanon Town. After regaining her Cure powers with fairy assistance, she defeats Vanish alongside her team. Hibiki's name, "Hōjō" (北条) combining "north" and "line," and "Hibiki" (響) meaning "sound" or "echo," collectively symbolize "north line sound." She is represented by the carnation flower, symbolizing devotion, and favors primroses.
