Description
Hojo Hibiki, known as Cure Melody, leads the Pretty Cure team in Suite Pretty Cure♪. As a second-year student at Private Aria Academy, she comes from a musical family—her father teaches music and her mother plays violin. Childhood trauma shapes her rejection of this heritage: during elementary school, her father canceled a planned amusement park trip to make her substitute at a piano recital. After her performance, he called her music "false," causing her to abandon piano despite innate talent and severely straining their relationship.
Hibiki displays an energetic, justice-oriented personality with strong principles against unfair tactics. She excels in sports but avoids committing to one club, instead assisting multiple teams. Academics and cooking challenge her, contrasting her love for sweets from Kanade’s family bakery—her childhood friend. An only child, she envies Kanade’s sibling bonds and eagerly befriends younger characters like Ako. Her naivety and susceptibility to loneliness make her vulnerable to antagonists’ manipulation, yet these traits help her recruit allies like Ellen and Ako into the Pretty Cure.
Her friendship with Kanade fractured during their school entrance ceremony when they waited at separate cherry blossom spots, leading Hibiki to mistakenly believe Kanade abandoned her. Years later, reconciliation begins when Siren attacks them at their childhood church, transforming a cherished music record symbolizing their bond into a Negatone. To reclaim it, they activate Cure Modules, becoming Cure Melody and Cure Rhythm. Initial disharmony breaks their transformation, but after resolving their misunderstanding while helping a distressed girl under cherry blossoms, they synchronize, defeat the Negatone, and vow to protect Kanon Town.
As Cure Melody, she transforms with Fairy Tone Dory, adopting light pink curled twin-tails, a pink-and-white two-piece outfit with a tutu skirt, and magenta accessories. Her purification attacks include Music Rondo solo and Passionate Harmony with Cure Rhythm. Later power-ups include Super Cure Melody—debuted in *Pretty Cure All Stars DX 3*—featuring a one-piece dress, elongated skirt, small wings, and lighter hair. Crescendo Cure Melody, introduced in *Suite Pretty Cure♪: Torimodose! Kokoro ga Tsunagu Kiseki no Melody* and episode 47, incorporates feather motifs, pearl-white coloring, golden wings, and the ensemble attack Suite Session Ensemble Crescendo Finale.
Her growth centers on music and relationships. She repairs ties with her father upon realizing his criticism aimed to teach that music requires emotional joy beyond technical skill, reigniting her piano passion. She practices with Kanade and supports Siren’s redemption to Cure Beat with kindness after betrayal. Hibiki persists in befriending Ako despite initial coldness, later embracing her as Cure Muse.
The surname "Hōjō" combines "north" (北) and "line" (条), while "Hibiki" (響) means "sound" or "resonance," reflecting her musical destiny. Cure Melody’s theme aligns with melody as a foundational musical element.
