Description
Nozomi Yumehara is the main protagonist of the Yes! Precure 5 duology, which includes Yes! Precure 5 GoGo!. She is a second-year student at L'École des Cinq Lumières Middle School. She has fair skin, purple eyes, and dark purple‑red hair worn in a shoulder‑length cut with twintails near the top of her head. Her father works as a children’s story author, and her mother runs a beauty shop. At the start of her journey, Nozomi is an energetic but airheaded girl who has not yet decided what she wants to do with her life.

Her personality is marked by boundless optimism and a cheerful, friendly nature. She often acts impulsively and is academically weak, but she makes up for these shortcomings with her determination, kindness, and willingness to help others. Her characteristic catchphrase is “Decided!” (Kettei!), which she exclaims whenever she makes up her mind about something. Nozomi’s given name is pronounced like the Japanese word for “hope,” and part of her surname means “dream,” reflecting her role as the Pretty Cure who embodies hope.

Nozomi’s motivation arises when she discovers a magical book called the Dream Collet in her school library and meets Coco, a fairy from the Palmier Kingdom. Learning that his friend Natts is trapped inside the Collet and that the kingdom has been destroyed by the Nightmare organization, she resolves to help restore the kingdom by finding the 55 Pinkies. Her kind heart and strong will prove her worthy of becoming a Pretty Cure, and she gains the power to transform into Cure Dream, the “Great Power of Hope.”

As the leader of the team, Nozomi learns to bring together four other girls—Rin Natsuki (Cure Rouge), Urara Kasugano (Cure Lemonade), Komachi Akimoto (Cure Mint), and Karen Minazuki (Cure Aqua)—who initially have very different personalities. Through her optimism and empathy, she gradually earns their trust and becomes a capable leader, inspiring them through difficult challenges. In the sequel season Yes! Precure 5 GoGo!, she continues to lead the team against a new threat, the Eternal organization, and is joined by Milk, who becomes Kurumi Mimino (Milky Rose). Nozomi also forms a close romantic bond with Coco, developing a crush on him early in the series that deepens over time. Their relationship becomes a recurring emotional element, culminating in a kiss in the second movie.

Throughout the story, Nozomi undergoes significant personal growth. She moves from being directionless to discovering a passion for helping others, which later sparks her dream of becoming a teacher. She develops greater focus and assertiveness, especially while fighting as Cure Dream, where she often delivers speeches about hope and perseverance.

As Cure Dream, Nozomi wields several notable abilities. Her signature attack is the Precure Dream Attack, which releases glowing butterflies from a pattern on her left hand to strike enemies. After obtaining the Dream Torch, she gains the Precure Crystal Shoot, which fires pink crystals. In the first series, the team’s combined technique is the Precure 5 Explosion. In GoGo!, her new attack is the Precure Shooting Star, and the team performs the Precure Rainbow Rose Explosion. Nozomi also receives temporary power‑up forms in the films: Super Cure Dream, which grants butterfly wings, and Shining Dream, an angelic‑looking form with feathered wings. These enhancements reflect her growing strength and the deepening of her symbolic connection to hope and dreams.
