Description
Urara Kasugano, a 13-year-old first-year student at L'École des Cinq Lumières Middle School, possesses Japanese and French heritage. Following her mother Maria Kasugano's passing during her childhood, the well-known actress's death spurred Urara's dream to become an actress herself, honoring her mother's legacy and spreading joy through performance. Raised by her French father Michel Kasugano and maternal grandfather Heizou Kasugano, her demanding schedule as a rising idol and actress prior to becoming a Pretty Cure resulted in social isolation, hindering genuine friendships and authentic self-expression.
In civilian life, Urara sports golden-blonde hair styled in curled shoulder-length pigtails secured with light red scrunchies (later replaced by pom-poms or bows), short bangs, and distinctive curled face-framing strands. Her eyes are gold. Her attire evolves across media: a bright yellow knee-length dress with orange accents in *Yes! Pretty Cure 5*; a pale yellow turtleneck under a brown ruffled blouse, light yellow skirt, heeled sandals, and knee-length socks in *GoGo!*. Movie outfits feature variations like a gold ankle-length dress (*Yes! 5* movie) or a yellow dress with orange details (*GoGo!* movie). As an adult (*Kibou no Chikara ~Otona Pretty Cure '23~*), she wears light vermillion glasses, styles her hair waist-length and loose or in twin tails, and dons mature clothing such as yellow jackets over cream blouses.
Urara initially projects a cheerful, polished persona while inherently being shy and reserved, concealing insecurities. Polite and formal, she frequently uses "-san" honorifics for senior teammates. A materialistic streak stems from her grasp of publicity and career demands. Despite her maturity, she exhibits youthful traits like clumsiness, a love for sweets, and occasional absent-mindedness. Her journey focuses on building self-confidence, moving from hesitation to assertiveness, especially as Cure Lemonade where she fights with unwavering resolve. Key relationships include deep admiration for her first friend and emotional anchor, Yumehara Nozomi; a peer-like bond with Syrup founded on mutual support and shared goals; and professional respect for her director Takigawa Mariko, who challenges her acting skills. Family remains central, with her father and grandfather as ardent supporters of her dreams.
Urara's story ignites upon witnessing Nozomi and Rin transform into Pretty Cure. Empowered by a yellow butterfly granting her a Pinky Catch, she debuts as Cure Lemonade in episode 3 to confront Nightmare. Throughout *Yes! Pretty Cure 5*, she balances Cure duties with her acting career, releasing her debut song "Extraordinary! Door of Courage" after Nozomi helps her reconcile singing with acting dreams. A failed audition in the season finale reinforces her perseverance. In *Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo!*, she regains her Cure abilities to combat Eternal, releasing a second single "Twin・Tail Magic ~Fling" and deepening her alliance with Syrup. Movies expand her capabilities: *Kagami no Kuni no Miracle Daibouken!* sees her achieving "Super Cure Lemonade" with butterfly wings via Miracle Lights, while *Pretty Cure All Stars DX* films unlock "Rainbow Cure Lemonade," granting a feather-adorned costume and small golden wings as part of the united 17-Cure team.
As Cure Lemonade, the "Pretty Cure of Effervescence," Urara wields light-based powers. She transforms using "Pretty Cure Metamorphose!" activated via her Pinky Catch or CureMo device. Her attacks encompass "Lemonade Flash" (summoning explosive butterflies), "Lemonade Shining" (enhanced with the Lemonade Castanet), and "Prism Chain" (butterfly-linked binding chains in *GoGo!*). She also contributes to team attacks like "Five Explosion" and "Rainbow Rose Explosion." Her name, Kasugano Urara, combines "spring day," reflecting her light motif, and "bright/beautiful," collectively meaning "bright beauty of a spring day."
