Description
Makoto Kenzaki, who transforms into Cure Sword, is a central character in the movie Eiga Dokidoki! Precure Mana Kekkon!!? Mirai ni Tsunagu Kibō no Dress. Originally from the parallel world of Trump Kingdom, she served as a royal guard to Princess Marie Ange. When the self-centered Jikochuu invaded and destroyed the kingdom, Makoto became the last surviving Precure. Escaping with the princess, she became separated during the journey and ended up on Earth. To locate the missing princess, she took on the identity of a popular idol known as MakoP, believing that fame would help draw the princess out. Despite her success, she carries deep guilt over failing to protect her homeland and her charge.
Makoto initially comes across as cool and reserved, driven by a strong sense of justice and a willingness to put herself in danger to shield others. She dislikes conflict but sees it as necessary. Underneath, she harbors loneliness and regret. Over time, her interactions with Mana Aida (Cure Heart) and the other Cures soften her, revealing a more vulnerable, sometimes clumsy side. In the movie, her backstory is explored through her memories of Trump Kingdom and her first awakening as Cure Sword, highlighting her bond with Princess Marie Ange and the moment she was chosen as a Precure. The story emphasizes the importance of cherished memories and connections across time, themes that resonate with Makoto’s personal journey.
Her motivations center on protecting others, finding the princess, and ultimately atoning for her perceived failures. In the film, she fights alongside her teammates to prevent a mysterious man named Matthew from erasing the past and future. Her relationship with Mana is particularly significant; Makoto learns to trust and rely on her friends rather than bearing the burden alone. She also shares a deep, almost familial bond with her fairy partner Dabyi, who acts as her manager, and retains a strong devotion to Princess Marie Ange.
As Cure Sword, she embodies the spade suit and the ideal of courage. Her combat style focuses on agility and precision, wielding light-based sword techniques. Notable abilities include the Holy Sword and later the more powerful Sparkle Sword, which she uses through the Love Heart Arrow. In crucial battles, she can deploy a barrage of light blades and perform finishing strikes like the Lovely Straight Flush. In the movie, her abilities are essential to overcoming the threats that endanger both past and future. Her development throughout the film reinforces her growth from a solitary warrior into an integral member of the Precure team, someone who fights not only for her own redemption but for the hope of all those she loves.
