Description
Makoto Kenzaki, known as Cure Sword, is a central figure in the Pretty Cure franchise whose story unfolds across television series, films, and crossover events. Originating from the Trump Kingdom, she served as a royal guard devoted to protecting Princess Marie Ange. After an invasion by the Jikochuu devastated their kingdom, Makoto and the princess escaped to Earth but were separated during the journey, leading Makoto to adopt the civilian identity of Kenzaki Makoto as she searched tirelessly for the missing princess.

On Earth, Makoto becomes a highly successful idol singer, leveraging her public performances to attract attention and potentially locate the princess. Her debut single sold over a million copies in its first week. Despite her fame, she maintains a reserved, stoic public demeanor. Her civilian attire typically consists of a white shirt, a long indigo vest, khaki shorts, a black tie, and white boots. As Cure Sword, her design features a light purple and white color scheme with an elegant dress adorned by feather-like accents on the shoulders, a prominent ribbon on the hip, and a heart-shaped brooch on her chest.

Makoto’s personality is marked by a strong sense of justice, duty, and deep regret over her perceived failure to protect her homeland. This regret initially leads her to prefer working alone to avoid endangering others. She is often stubborn and socially awkward, especially when faced with kindness, which tends to fluster her. Her understanding of Earth’s customs is limited, though she is determined to learn and adapt. Only her fairy partner and manager, Dabyi, is fully privy to her inner vulnerabilities, including a noted fear of dentists.

Her relationships evolve throughout her story. Initial interactions with Aida Mana, Cure Heart, are strained, but she gradually develops strong trust and friendship with her and the other Pretty Cures, including Rikka Hishikawa, Cure Diamond, and Alice Yotsuba, Cure Rosetta. Her dynamic with Princess Marie Ange is defined by unwavering loyalty and profound responsibility. The princess’s transformation into a fairy-like baby named Ai causes Makoto significant emotional distress, though she ultimately accepts this change. Her initial hostility toward Regina, whom she blames for the Trump Kingdom’s destruction, softens into trust after Regina saves Mana.

As a warrior, Cure Sword employs attacks such as Holy Sword and Sword Hurricane, wielding the Heart Love Arrow. She transforms using the Lovely Commune device and Cure Loveads. She has participated in major crossover events, including the film "Pretty Cure All Stars New Stage 2: Friends of the Heart," where she joined Cures from other series to confront a threat at the Fairy Academy. She also appeared in the "Happiness Charge Pretty Cure!" series, delivering a congratulatory message for the franchise’s anniversary.

A later revelation shows she became an orphan in infancy after her parents passed away and has no memory of their faces. Her journey culminates in a shift in her primary goal; after reconciling with the fate of the Trump Kingdom and Princess Marie Ange, her mission transitions from saving her home world to protecting Earth alongside her friends. She continues her career as one of Japan’s most prolific idols, having released more image songs than any other Cure.
