Description
Jackknife Dragon, whose real name is Findar the 100th and is often called simply Jack, is a prominent character in Future Card Buddyfight Triple D. He serves as the loyal buddy monster and closest partner to Tasuku Ryuenji, a young and highly skilled fighter associated with the Buddy Police. Jackknife is a green-scaled, bipedal dragon with four-fingered hands. His most distinguishing physical features include a helmet equipped with a sword that can slide forward for combat, as well as black pauldrons and body armor trimmed with grey edges and red highlights.
In terms of personality, Jackknife is known for being calm, serious, and possessing a strong desire to protect others, a trait he shares with his human partner, Tasuku. Despite his reputation as a well-known and powerful monster, he is neither arrogant nor prone to overconfidence in battle. He has a notable soft spot for younger beings, demonstrating a great deal of patience and tolerance. This is particularly evident in his interactions with the baby Sun Dragon, Bal Dragon, whose annoying habits Jackknife largely ignores while acting as a mentor and father figure to the newborn monster. One of his more peculiar quirks is his strong aversion to shrinking down into a smaller form, known as SD form, which he stubbornly refuses to do even though he is capable of it. This stems from a personal dislike, though he has been known to overcome this reluctance to cheer up Tasuku or to convince him to forgive himself.
Jackknife's core motivation is deeply rooted in his bond with Tasuku Ryuenji, whom he considers to be his family. He has invested a large amount of trust in Tasuku and is not hesitant to risk himself to protect him. This bond is a central driving force for his actions throughout the series. He grants Tasuku the ability to fly, a skill referred to as their buddy skill.
Within the narrative of Triple D, Jackknife is shown to have evolved into a form known as Star Dragoner, Jackknife, allowing him to wield the power of the stars and the Star Dragon World itself. His role in the story is tightly interwoven with Tasuku's personal arc, which takes a dark turn when Tasuku falls from grace and temporarily joins the villainous group Disaster, adopting a cynical worldview. During this period, Tasuku transforms Jackknife into Goldritter, a state that essentially turns him into a mindless weapon. This event deeply shocks and disappoints Jackknife, and he resolves to make it his goal to return Tasuku to his senses.
A key relationship in this season is his dynamic with the young protagonist Gao Mikado and his buddy, Bal Dragon. Jackknife shows considerable care for Bal, acting as a teacher and helping the immature dragon learn how to Buddyfight properly. He also becomes part of Gao's deck for a time, knowing that Gao would be strong enough to help break Tasuku's connection to Disaster. Later, during the World Buddyfight Championship (WBC Cup), Jackknife and Tasuku face opponents such as Gaito Kurouzu and his buddy Abygale, as well as Dai Kaido and his buddy Duel Jaeger. Tasuku's journey in Triple D sees him unlock the Dragon Force of Joy, which enhances his combat abilities, and Jackknife is by his side throughout this development, from the regional qualifiers to the final tournament.
Jackknife's notable abilities are primarily showcased through his combat prowess. He is a formidable fighter with amazing skills and strength. His signature abilities include powerful attacks like the Impact Card Gargantua Punisher!!. As a Star Dragoner, he wields the power of the Star Dragon World. In battle, he and Tasuku utilize a fighting style focused on the jackknife as their main axis, using combination effect items and cross-nise cards. The Dragon Force unlocked by Tasuku, the Dragon Force of Joy, manifests in their fights with crystalline features and luminous effects, evolving into the Style of Justice. Jackknife's unwavering support proves to be instrumental in Tasuku's redemption, as he helps his partner overcome deep guilt and shame after returning to his senses.
