Description
Drum Bunker Dragon, whose full name is Fang Slade Terrestrial XIV, is a dragon monster from Dragon World and serves as the original buddy fighter to the protagonist, Gao Mikado. He is the son of the Drum clan's chief, Fang Slade Terrestrial XIII, and is destined to one day inherit the leadership of his clan.
Physically, Drum Bunker Dragon shares the standard appearance of his clan. He has a red body with an orange underbelly and flowing, spiky gold hair. He wears gold-colored armor, highlighted by a ruby jewel set into the cuirass, and a dark red, tattered cape secured by a brown belt. A three-clawed wrist plate on his left arm serves as his main weapon.
When first introduced, Drum Bunker Dragon is presented as hotheaded, stubborn, reckless, and somewhat selfish. He initially struggles to understand the human world and gets along poorly with most people, particularly Gao, whom he initially refuses to acknowledge as a true partner. The two frequently bicker over trivial matters, with a particular point of contention being pudding. A deep-seated source of his early behavior is an inferiority complex stemming from the pressure of being the son of the Drum clan's chief; he constantly fears he is not living up to his father's expectations and is driven to prove his own worth. This insecurity, which became pronounced during the ABC Cup, pushes him to leave Gao and train in other worlds.
This period of training across different dimensions is a turning point for Drum, leading to significant personal growth and new abilities. He unlocks different forms based on the worlds he visits, such as Dragowizard Magician Drum in Magic World and Brave Drum in Dungeon World, which in turn grant his partner, Gao, access to diverse strategies in battle. After this training, Drum slowly matures, becoming more selfless and deeply loyal to Gao. This loyalty is demonstrated powerfully when the entire world turns against Gao after the Gaen Cup, and Drum remains a steadfast supporter. Later, he accepts the immense responsibility of becoming the Fifth Omni Dragon Lord, a powerful being tasked with confronting the monstrous Yamigedo to save Earth.
Following the resolution of the Yamigedo crisis, Drum steps down as Gao's active buddy to return to Dragon World and fulfill his destiny as the new chief of the Drum Clan, succeeding his father. He eventually starts a family and becomes a father to ten children.
In Future Card Buddyfight X: All-Star Fight, Drum Bunker Dragon returns to Earth to reunite with Gao, having been invited by Guru Bumbuku to participate in the GGG Cup tournament. By this time, he has matured further, and as a clan chief and father, he brings a more seasoned perspective to his partnership with Gao. He fights alongside Gao, as well as the dragons Dragon of the Sun and Bal Dragon, ultimately helping his partner secure victory in the tournament. After the tournament concludes, Drum returns to his duties in Dragon World, but promises to continue visiting his old friend in the future.
