Description
Jackknife Dragon, whose real name is Findar the 100th and is often called simply Jack by those close to him, is a prominent character and the dedicated buddy monster of Tasuku Ryuenji. A green-scaled, bipedal dragon, Jack is easily identified by his black and grey armor with red highlights, as well as the helmet he wears which features a retractable blade. He is well-known in the world as a member of the Buddy Police, an organization dedicated to stopping those who misuse cards and buddy monsters for criminal purposes.
Jack possesses a serious, calm, and duty-driven personality, though he is not without his lighter moments. He holds a strong desire to protect others and is eager in battle, but this eagerness is not born from arrogance or overconfidence. On one rare occasion, he broke his typically serious demeanor to laugh at the oddly shaped and poorly placed core gadget of a criminal they were apprehending. Jack has a strong and unwavering sense of justice, which is the driving force behind his role as a member of the Buddy Police. He also demonstrates a great capacity for forgiveness, having shown mercy to former enemies like Kiri, and acts with patience and tolerance, particularly when mentoring younger monsters such as the more rambunctious Bal Dragon, to whom he acts as a father figure.
The most significant relationship in Jacks life is with his human partner, Tasuku Ryuenji. The two consider each other family, a bond that surpasses a typical partnership and represents an extraordinary level of mutual trust and loyalty. Tasuku even grants Jack the ability to fly when they are together. Despite being capable of shrinking down to a smaller, more convenient size, Jack stubbornly refuses to do so in daily life, as he prefers to remain at his full height to serve as a constant guardian for Tasuku. This refusal is tied to his intense protectiveness, and it is only when Tasukus emotional needs are paramount that he will reluctantly adopt his smaller form.
This powerful bond is severely tested when Tasuku falls under the influence of the organization known as Disaster. During this time, Tasuku transforms Jack into Goldritter, a forbidden and dangerous technique that erases Jacks will and effectively turns him into a mindless weapon. Despite this traumatic event, Jack does not give up on his partner. He makes it his goal to return Tasuku to his senses, even joining forces with Team Balle Du Solle by allowing himself to become part of Gao Mikado´s deck in an attempt to break Tasuku´s connection to Disaster. The climax of this arc occurs during the Gaen Cup finals, where Jack confronts and defeats Demios Sword Dragon, landing the decisive blow that finally returns Tasuku to normal. Afterwards, in a moment that shows how much he cares, Jack goes to Tasuku in the hospital and, despite his dislike for it, uses his small SD form to comfort Tasuku and help him overcome his overwhelming guilt and shame, ultimately repairing their friendship.
Throughout the series, Jack undergoes significant evolution and transformation. After rigorous training with the Armordeity Dynamis, who challenged Tasuku to overcome his past, Jack evolved into a Neodragon of Star Dragon World, known first as Star Guardian, Jackknife. This evolution granted him a new, more futuristic form equipped with a neon-blue blade. He later achieved further forms, including Radiant Guardian, Jackknife Aster, with the help of Tasukus powerful Gargantua Punisher!! card, and eventually became Star Dragoner, Jackknife, a form that allows him to wield the very essence and power of Star Dragon World itself. In combat, Jack acts as a direct extension of Tasukus strategy. His abilities are reflected in associated card mechanics, such as the spell Star Jack Revival, which grants protective effects to monsters bearing the Jackknife name, showcasing his resilience in battle.
