Description
Demon Lord Asmodai, often referred to simply as Asmodai, is a prominent character in the Future Card Buddyfight anime, best known as the buddy monster to the fighter Tetsuya Kurodake. As a resident of the Magic World, Asmodai is a being of significant power and ancient origin, eventually revealed to hold the title of Second Omni Demon Lord and serve as a member of the Omni Lords, a group of guardians who protect the multiverse from existential threats. His existence predates recorded human history, placing him among some of the oldest known beings in the series' cosmology.

In terms of appearance, Asmodai is a tall, humanoid demon with a muscular physique, pink skin, and striking silver eyes. His body is adorned with numerous purple markings, including a distinct skull-shaped pattern on his head that extends onto his face. Other distinctive features include pointy ears, horns on his shoulders and biceps, grey claws, and a long tail. His typical attire is casual and flamboyant, consisting of an open yellow hoodie with orange accents, unzipped teal jeans, and deep violet chaps with spiked belts and skull decals. He also wears sandals with greaves and several pieces of silver jewelry, such as hoop earrings and a chain necklace. In combat, he can transform into Armorknight Asmodai, donning armor plates and wielding a large hammer with an expressive face. When his true power as Second Omni Demon Lord is called upon, his hoodie becomes longer and green, and he gains blade-like decorations on his arms.

Asmodai possesses a complex personality that blends the mischievous nature of a demon with the wisdom of an ancient being. He is known to be a trickster who enjoys playing jokes on others, often as a way to teach a lesson or simply for fun. Despite this carefree and sometimes teasing exterior, he is deeply knowledgeable about the worlds of Buddyfight and regularly provides Tetsuya with sound strategic advice, encouraging him to try his hardest and never give up. He is even willing to upset his friend if it ultimately helps him grow as a person. However, Asmodai has a notable flaw in his secretive nature; he tends to lie or withhold information, which can lead to his actions being misinterpreted and unintentionally hurting those around him, even when his intentions are good.

A key aspect of Asmodai's character is his dual life as a famous entertainer on Earth. He has achieved great success as a celebrity, hosting his own dancing show and appearing regularly on popular television programs. This background makes him a unique figure, acting as a bridge between the human world and the worlds of the monsters. His primary motivation stems from his bond with Tetsuya. He values their friendship immensely, and it is central to his actions. He once explained a demonic paradox where demons who become best friends with humans are considered bad, proudly declaring that he is as bad as it gets, signifying the depth of his loyalty to Tetsuya. He is also driven by a sense of duty as an Omni Lord, though his awareness of the overwhelming power of threats like the planet-consuming entity Yamigedo initially made him hesitant to get involved, fearing it would endanger his life with Tetsuya.

Asmodai's role in the story is multifaceted. He serves as a mentor and guide to Tetsuya, using his wisdom and unique methods to help his buddy improve as a fighter. He also acts as a capable ally in battle, stepping in to defend others when necessary. This is seen when he confronts the antagonist Ikazuchi to protect the fellow Omni Lord Tenbu, using a Core Gadget in his form as Second Omni Lord. He has also aided other fighters, such as when he temporarily became Kiri Hyoryu's buddy in disguise, advising Kiri to diversify his fighting style beyond a single world. Throughout the series, Asmodai participates in cross-world conferences to discuss emerging dangers and, during the GGG Cup tournament, fights alongside other notable characters.

The character experiences significant development, primarily through the revelation of his true identity. Initially presented as simply a flashy demon entertainer, he is later uncovered to be the Second Omni Lord, a revelation that adds weight to his actions and knowledge. This discovery recontextualizes his secretive behavior and his deep understanding of the Buddyfight worlds. Throughout his journey, his unwavering bond with Tetsuya remains a constant, but he learns to better navigate the balance between protecting his friend and confronting the larger responsibilities that come with his ancient power.

Asmodai possesses several notable abilities that reflect his demonic and Omni Lord nature. He has demonstrated the power to shapeshift into other forms, such as taking on the appearance of a Danger World monster. He can also create clones of himself, an ability he frequently uses to perform multiple tasks or spy on others. In his role as an Omni Lord, he wields a special orb as a Core Gadget. In combat within the card game, his signature card effect, Dangerous Back-drop!, allows him to destroy an opponent's monster upon entering the field by discarding a card, a fitting ability for a disruptive demon lord. Through his connection with Tetsuya, he has also granted his buddy the power to fly on a giant banana-shaped light, a quirky but practical skill.
