Description
Miime is a mysterious alien woman and the last survivor of her home planet Jura. Her race, the Jurans, was completely destroyed by nuclear warfare and the subsequent environmental retaliation of the planet’s sentient plant life. She was rescued by Captain Harlock when he visited the dying world. In gratitude, Miime pledged her life to him and joined the crew of the Arcadia, becoming his closest companion and confidante.
Physically, Miime has long blue hair, pale skin, and almond-shaped yellow eyes. Like all Jurans, she lacks a visible mouth, though she is able to speak and absorb liquids through the general mouth area. She consumes alcohol as a non-intoxicating foodstuff but can become intoxicated if the proof is extremely high.
Her personality is quiet, sensitive, and empathetic. She rarely speaks at length but offers thoughtful observations and advice when needed. She does not hold an official position aboard the Arcadia, yet she assists Doctor Zero in tending to injured crew members during crises. Her empathic nature and psychic abilities also allow her to serve as a counselor, comforting crew members in distress—for example, when she consoles Miss Masu after the loss of her estranged fiancé.
Miime is a skilled musician, playing a lap harp. Her music has a calming effect and can soothe pain or anxiety among those on the ship. In addition to her psychic and psionic powers, she is a competent fighter, capable of using a firearm to protect herself and others when the Arcadia is threatened.
Her primary motivation is to remain at Harlock’s side and support him in his quest for freedom. She harbors no personal agenda or desire for revenge. Her loyalty is absolute, and she is willing to protect Harlock at any cost. Their relationship is not romantic but deeply bonded by shared isolation, loneliness, and grief. She is the only person in whom Harlock fully confides, and she serves as his unofficial advocate among the crew, explaining his actions and reinforcing his resolve. She never challenges his freedom or tries to change him, and he makes no demands on her. Together they share moments of quiet companionship, often over drinks or music.
In the story of Captain Harlock: Mystery of the Arcadia, Miime continues in this role as a steady, serene presence on the bridge of the Arcadia, offering her insights and music while the ship unravels the secrets of its own mysterious past. Her character does not undergo dramatic development because she has already reached the peak of her personal journey; instead, she acts as a calm anchor for the narrative, representing the quiet endurance of the last of her kind.
