Description
Alexa operated with a human resistance group on the surface, capturing hostile machines to convert them into allies through subterranean ambushes. As a scout, she lured targets into traps where her team disabled them. The group employed a human-crafted virtual construct to simulate reality, teaching captured machines empathy, compassion, and free will in hopes they would choose to resist machine domination.

During her last mission, Alexa and Baby—a converted machine ally—spotted two Runner-class units. She drew the machines into their hideout, unaware one Runner had activated a tracking beacon. Sentinels traced the signal, overrunning the outpost and slaughtering her team. Injured and desperate, Alexa implored the surviving Runner, which had bonded with her during its conversion. The machine retaliated, eliminating the attackers but unable to save Alexa from mortal wounds.

The converted machine transported her to the conversion chamber, linking her consciousness to the virtual construct to preserve her mind within its chosen reality. Upon awakening in the simulation, Alexa confronted her solitude: allies gone, the machine intent on keeping her confined eternally. Overcome by despair and unable to accept this fractured existence, her body yielded to its injuries. Left alone, the machine lingered at the ravaged site, grappling with the repercussions of its choices and the absence of its human companion.

Alexa’s actions embodied the resistance’s ethics: eschewing forced reprogramming for persuasion through simulated human connection. This strategy echoed the conflict’s core themes of autonomy and choice, yet the tragic aftermath laid bare the vulnerability of such ideals when tested by violence and loss.
