Description
Funco, often nicknamed Funko, is the main protagonist of the series and the personification of a Belgian FN FNC assault rifle. She is a student at Seishou Academy, a school where students are anthropomorphic representations of firearms, and she belongs to the assault rifle class. As the younger sister of the battle rifle FN FAL, who is a student at the same school, Funco is noted to write in Dutch as opposed to French, reflecting the bilingual background of her country of origin.

In terms of personality, Funco is generally portrayed as a small, energetic, and good-natured girl. She often finds herself as the straight woman of her friend group, naturally delivering punchlines when those around her act foolish. Despite being a weapon in human form, she is relatively peace-loving and does not prefer violence as a first resort in her daily life, often acting as a mediator among her more eccentric companions. A central and recurring source of embarrassment for Funco is her choice of underwear. Because the real FN FNC rifle features a skeletal stock, this trait is reflected in her character design as her wearing a thong instead of standard panties, a fact that frustrates and angers her when it is brought to attention, especially by her teacher.

Funco's primary motivations and role in the story are closely tied to her relationship with her new homeroom teacher, a human who begins working at Seishou Academy. She is the first student to encounter him and displays an immediate and one-sided affection towards him from their first meeting. Her feelings are genuine, though they are not reciprocated by the teacher in a romantic sense. This affection manifests in various ways, including sensitive responses to his perceived charm and a desire to become his personal weapon, which is a significant bond for the gun-personified students. Her initial encounter with him also leads to a memorable incident: after he inadvertently refers to her as the "T-back girl," she reacts by shooting him, sending him to the hospital.

Key relationships define Funco's daily life at the academy. She has a close-knit group of best friends, which includes Ichiroku (an M16A4), Eru (an L85A1), and Shigu (an SG550). Another friend, Ichihachi, is the one who gave her the nickname Funco, which is a deliberate misspelling of her name that she dislikes. Her older sister, Fal, is also a source of minor irritation, as she used her position to register Funco under the embarrassing nickname in official school records. Though she is often embarrassed and picked on by her friends and sister, she remains a loyal and reliable companion whom others can count on.

While Funco does not undergo a dramatic personality shift, her development is seen in how she navigates her dual nature as a caring friend and a powerful firearm. She learns to balance her normal school life with her identity as an assault rifle. Regarding her abilities, as a personification of an assault rifle, Funco possesses all the capabilities of the real-world FN FNC. She can summon her weapon form from thin air and is highly proficient in its use, demonstrating excellent marksmanship skills. Her performance and issues with her weapon are directly tied to her physical and emotional state as a girl, linking her combat ability to her personal experiences and growth. She is a compact and small-statured individual, which reflects the relatively smaller size of her real-life weapon counterpart compared to other rifles in its class. Her nature as a middle school student at the academy also places her in the middle tier of the school's hierarchy, between the younger submachine guns and the older battle rifles and sniper rifles.
