OVA
Description
Genius Sage, also called Genis Sage, hails from Sylvarant's village of Iselia. He is the younger brother of Raine Sage, the village professor. Beginning as a 12-year-old, he ages to 14 during the narrative, growing from 141cm to 151cm tall, with distinctive white hair and blue eyes.
A child prodigy and Iselia's top student, Genius possesses exceptional intellect. His sharp mind sometimes leads to pride and criticism of others, yet he shows deep kindness and steadfast loyalty to close friends like Lloyd Irving and Colette Brunel. He forms a strong bond with Lloyd, admiring his resilience, while Lloyd appreciates Genius' moments of maturity.
Genius is a half-elf, concealing his mixed heritage alongside his sister due to widespread prejudice. Humans associate half-elves with the Desians, while full elves reject them. This heritage grants him a long lifespan and innate magical talent but also subjects him to discrimination. His race is revealed during travels in Tethe'alla, where the party ultimately accepts him.
In battle, Genius wields a kendama exclusively for long-range magical attacks. Starting with the basic Fire Ball spell, he evolves into the party's most powerful mage. His elemental artes expand from novice spells like Stone Blast, Wind Blade, Aqua Edge, and Lightning to advanced techniques such as Meteor Storm, progressing through either Technical or Strike-based enhancement paths. He cannot use Dark-elemental magic.
He is also a skilled cook. Emotionally, he balances mature insight with childish reactions, especially under stress. Genius joins Colette Brunel's Journey of World Regeneration out of friendship and a desire to restore Sylvarant's mana. This quest forces him to confront racial prejudice and complex moral dilemmas tied to the world's fate.
His journey involves mastering formidable magic and building emotional resilience. He faces Desian adversaries and uncovers historical truths about Sylvarant and Tethe'alla, grappling with sacrifice, discrimination, and identity. His relationships, particularly with Lloyd and Raine, anchor his decisions and growth, revealing both his reliance on others during physical challenges and his vital strategic role.
Across all official media, including animated adaptations covering the Sylvarant, Tethe'alla, and United World arcs, Genius remains integral to the party's dynamics and the mission to balance the two worlds.
