Description
Shinnosuke "Shin-chan" Nohara is a mischievous and curious five-year-old living in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture. He blends unexpected maturity with socially inappropriate antics, frequently performing his signature "Buri Buri" dance—pulling down his pants and wiggling his buttocks while singing original songs. Shin-chan exhibits a strong dislike for green peppers and onions but adores snacks like Chocobi chocolate biscuits. His speech features malapropisms, such as confusing "promise" with "promotion," and he uses non-standard pronouns like "ora" instead of "boku."

His personality combines laziness and stubbornness, inherited from his mother, with a penchant for flirting with older women—a trait shared with his father, Hiroshi. Despite his antics, he demonstrates deep care for his family, especially his younger sister Himawari, whom he comforts and protects. Shin-chan also shows kindness to animals, exemplified by rescuing his dog, Shiro, from the streets. He possesses surprising athletic talents in running, baseball, surfing, kendo, and skiing.

In the film "Arashi o Yobu Appare! Sengoku Daikassen," Shin-chan discovers a buried letter dated to 1574 (the second year of the Tensho era). This letter transports him to Japan's Sengoku period, where he saves samurai Matabei Yoshitoshi Ijiri during a battle. He becomes involved with the Kasuga clan, befriending Princess Ren Kasuga and encountering ancestors of his friends (Kazuma, Omasa, Nene, and Bōshichi). He uncovers a mutual romantic attraction between Matabei and Ren, complicated by political pressures for Ren to marry Takatora Okurai to secure an alliance.

When Shin-chan disappears, his parents Hiroshi and Misae find historical records indicating his involvement in the past. They travel back in time using their car parked over the garden hole, arriving at Kasuga Fort. Shin-chan and his family help the clan defend against Okurai's invasion. Utilizing the family car strategically, they disrupt the enemy camp, leading to Takatora's defeat. Shin-chan persuades Matabei to spare Takatora's life. Tragically, Matabei is killed moments later by a defeated soldier, dying after thanking Shin-chan for saving him. Shin-chan and his family return to the present via the lake.

Spin-off media expands Shin-chan's adventures. In "Crayon Shin-chan Spin-off: Alien vs. Shinnosuke," he and his family awaken 100 years in the future on an alien spaceship. They face survival challenges alongside other abductees, confront the "Buttmen" aliens who intend to consume humans, and engage in a climactic confrontation where Shin-chan battles an alien using his signature buttocks-focused tactics to escape back to Earth. Another spin-off, "Crayon Shin-chan Spin-off: Lone Wolf and Family," features him using a unique "butt swordplay" fighting style within a historical setting.

Speculation exists around the character's origin, suggesting Shin-chan might be inspired by a real child named Shinnosuke Nohara who died saving his sister. According to this theory, his grieving mother processed her loss by drawing his antics, allegedly influencing creator Yoshito Usui. This remains an unverified fan theory.
