Description
Hazama, a Shikabane affiliated with the Shichisei, serves as the right hand to Hokuto, the group's true leader. His curse grants him the power to manipulate insect swarms and manifest massive centipede arms to incapacitate targets. The Big Dipper symbol on his neck marks his rank as the Shichisei's First Star. In humanoid form, he appears as a middle-aged man with long black hair, a black mustache, typically clad in a grey Yukata.

Years before the main events, Hazama spearheaded a massive assault on the Kougon Sect, resulting in a protracted battle. During this conflict, the monk Akasha and his Shikabane Hime Hibiki eliminated numerous Shikabanes. When Hibiki surpassed the limit of 108 kills, she reverted to a rogue state and attacked her comrades, forcing Akasha to kill her – an outcome Hazama observed with amusement. Later, Hazama and his group targeted a small village, brutally murdering Makina Hoshimura's entire family.

Hazama first appears confronting Ouri Kagami, Rinsen, and soldier monks in an underground tunnel after kidnapping Ouri's classmates, Nozomi and Mizuki. He easily overpowers them until their escape using fire explosives. Makina arrives to battle him but is swiftly defeated. While expressing disappointment in her weakness, Hazama acknowledges her persistence fueled by attachments. As he prepares to kill the group, Rogere Gustav interrupts, informing him that the requirements for resurrecting the Unholy King are complete.

In the anime, Hazama debuts alongside Hokuto, killing two female students. He later murders Ooyatsuka at his cult theater. During season two, he infiltrates the Kougon Sect and confronts Makina under Isaka's curse. In the Shichisei headquarters' sewers, during Hokuto's battle with Makina, Hazama reveals that Makina's ancestors sacrificed Hokuto as a human sacrifice and that the Hoshimura family created Hokuto. He explains Makina and Hokuto share the same bloodline, and orchestrating their enmity is part of his plan to destroy the Kougon Sect. To this end, he directs two hijacked airplanes to crash into Yama City, creating countless Shikabanes.

His plan falters when Akasha intervenes, helping Hokuto atone for killing Hibiki – revealed as his former fiancée – by becoming Akasha's Shikabane Hime. Following the Shichisei's near-destruction by the Kougon Sect, Hazama and Hokuto escape to an abandoned complex. Tracked down by Makina and Ouri, Hazama is depicted as mentally unstable while observing Hokuto and Makina's final battle, culminating in an abrupt cliffhanger.

Hazama embodies themes of distorted human nature and the consequences of obsession, exploiting attachments and regrets to further his goals. His actions highlight the blurred lines between humanity and monstrosity within the series' exploration of undeath. His character arc concludes without resolution, leaving him in a state of apparent insanity during the unresolved confrontation between Hokuto and Makina.
