Description
Nozomi Kasuga is a 16-year-old human student attending Ikai High School alongside classmates Ouri Kagami, Hiroshige Ushijima, Sumitori, and Mizuki Inuhiko. Her surname, Kasuga, signifies "spring sun/day," while her given name, Nozomi, means "wish" or "desire."
During an incident in the manga's first chapter, she enters a man-eating house apartment with other students and suffers injuries in an attack by shikabanes, only saved by Makina Hoshimura's intervention. This trauma ignites a profound fascination with death within her. Driven by this obsession, she stalks Makina Hoshimura and later Ouri Kagami. She develops romantic feelings for Ouri Kagami, expressing a desire to become a Shikabane Hime to achieve eternal union with him.
In the anime's second season (episode 6), Toya exploits their mutual belief in death's beauty to manipulate her. Embracing his philosophy transforms her into a more assertive and direct individual. This shift leads her to kill multiple students at her school. Ouri Kagami and Makina Hoshimura intervene to halt her and Toya, but they fail to prevent her demise when Hizuchi destroys the shikabane representing her source of happiness in a fatal confrontation.
With her final breaths, she implores Ouri Kagami to transform her into a Shikabane Hime. This request goes unfulfilled as she does not meet the necessary requirements to become one.
