Later, she is resurrected by Koyomi during a journey to hell and ascends to become a goddess enshrined at the North Shirahebi Shrine, taking on an adult form dressed in shrine maiden attire. She also interacts with Hitagi Senjougahara, who initially views her with suspicion but later shows empathy and aids in her journey. Her family background includes her parents' divorce, after which she lived with her father; her original family name was Tsunade before the divorce. The name Hachikuji, which literally means eighty-nine temples, carries thematic weight, as it plays on concepts of misfortune and being out of place, while her given name, Mayoi, can be interpreted as the word for losing one's way.
