TV-Series
Description
Azbes, captain of the royal guard for House Volder on Arst, witnessed Marder's invasion claim the king's life and capture Queen Felia. Entrusted with newborn Prince Jordy Volder's safety, he fled with the infant into the wilderness, evading Marder's forces. To conceal Jordy's identity, Azbes raised him as Jojo, posing as his own grandson while hiding the prince's royal lineage. He dedicated himself to training Jordy in combat and survival, forging him into a capable fighter over twelve years to resist Marder's occupation. Azbes' driving mission—reclaiming the kingdom and rescuing Queen Felia—led him to seek Galient, an ancient panzer war machine buried beneath Arst, believing it vital for their struggle. He fought alongside Jordy and White Valley's rebel allies, contributing combat skills and strategic insight to campaigns against Marder's empire.

Azbes' portrayal remains unchanged in the original 1984-1985 television series and the recap OVAs "Chapter of the Land" and "Chapter of the Sky," which adapt the TV story without elaborating on his background or fate. The alternate continuity in the third OVA episode "Crest of Iron" presents different character dynamics and omits Azbes in his established role. No other official media documents further canonical developments or expanded backstory for Azbes.
