Description
Blue Moon is the transformed Yo-kai Hero state of Jinpei Jiba, activated when the Yo-kai Bluepon possesses him via the YSP Watch during battles against supernatural threats at Y Academy. Bluepon begins as a small, round, blue slime-like entity but evolves into a humanoid blue cat-like form, Bluepon Perfect Body, after consuming six specific Mystery Medals. This perfected state wears a long blue hooded robe and uses magical abilities to grant Jinpei the transformation medal and command medals needed to become Blue Moon.
Blue Moon possesses a distinctly cat-like yet humanoid form, featuring a blue color scheme. His pumpkin-orange eyes are visible behind black glasses, with a white crescent-shaped hairpiece beneath his hood. A single tail, fading from blue to white with a wavy tip, extends from his form. His attire consists of a blue jacket featuring asymmetrically zipped ear holes, a royal blue wizard robe secured by a black belt with a diamond buckle, yellow shorts, and cowboy boots. He wields the Aotsuki no Roddo staff, adorned with a crescent moon-shaped sapphire containing blue liquid. This design reflects European cultural influences, contrasting with other Yo-kai Heroes.
Personality-wise, Blue Moon maintains a consistently calm and caring demeanor, refusing to lose composure even in dire circumstances. He prioritizes psychological resolution over physical confrontation. Instead of inflicting harm, he employs his signature Mind Travel ability to enter opponents' consciousnesses, aiming to purify their minds by addressing psychological weaknesses or motivating positive change. He demonstrated this by accessing The Viper's psyche to facilitate reconciliation with their human component, guiding Sandayuu Koma through his mother's memories to reveal her hidden affection, and exposing the Student Council members to memories of Ranto Kirigakure's kindness to restore their confidence during alien corruption.
His combat abilities center on mental manipulation and water-based techniques. Mind Travel allows him to explore memories, create shared psychological spaces, and influence emotional states. While capable of water and ice attacks like the high-pressure water jets of Blue Stream or the freezing gusts of Icicle Wind, he rarely employs them. In *Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble*, his Soultimate Move erases all Yo-kai Puni and creates bonus balls, with potency increasing at higher levels.
Key narrative involvements include his debut resolving the conflict with The Viper (YG023) through mental intervention. He later aided Koma (YG031), helped the corrupted Student Council (YG035), and addressed Fubuki Himekawa's past to calm her berserk state, enabling her fusion into Ningyo Lady (YG057). A significant limitation occurred in YG033 when his Mind Travel failed against the alien Dober, resulting in forced separation from Jinpei and the accidental recreation of Mikettio.
The name Blue Moon directly references his blue coloration and lunar associations, evident in his crescent hairpiece, staff gem, and water-based powers tied to lunar tidal influences. His European-inspired wizard motif may draw from ancient Sumerian moon deities linked to magic. As a Rank ZZ Yo-kai in *Wibble Wobble* and Rank Sho in *Sangokushi*, he appears in limited-time events and requires specific coins for acquisition. In *Y School Heroes: Bustlin' School Life*, he is unlocked in Chapter 11.
