TV-Series
Description
Na Hyerin, known in her civilian life as Natsuki Rin, is a second‑year student at L’École des Cinq Lumières. She comes from a family that runs a flower shop and is the older sister to twin siblings, a role that makes her naturally responsible and protective. Her outward appearance is tomboyish; she is exceptionally athletic and proficient in a wide range of sports, so much so that many school teams try to recruit her. Yet she also possesses a more feminine side, especially when it comes to crushes or attractive people.
Her personality is straightforward, down‑to‑earth, and grounded. She often acts as the voice of reason among her friends, especially when the more impulsive Nozomi comes up with unrealistic ideas or behaves childishly. This practicality, however, is balanced by a deep sense of loyalty and a strong protective instinct. When Nozomi first transforms into Cure Dream and battles an enemy, Rin’s concern for her best friend compels her to accept the power of the red butterfly, becoming Cure Rouge, the Pretty Cure of Passion.
Her motivations are rooted in her desire to protect those she cares about and to stand by her friends in their mission to restore the Palmier Kingdom. She is not driven by grand ambitions but by a simple wish to keep her loved ones safe. As the series progresses, she learns to rely more on her teammates and to complement their strengths, particularly in her early clashes with Karen (Cure Aqua) due to their contrasting personalities. Over time, the two develop mutual respect and become effective combat partners.
As Cure Rouge, her elemental affinity is fire. Her signature attacks include Rouge Fire, in which she launches a fire projectile from a butterfly‑shaped mark, and the upgraded Rouge Burning, which uses the Rouge Tact device to generate a larger blast of flames. She also employs close‑combat techniques, often fighting alongside Nozomi or Karen, and can perform combination attacks such as Fire Strike, where she kicks a fire‑infused ball at the enemy. Her catchphrase as a Cure is “Red Flame of Passion, Cure Rouge.”
Her key relationships anchor the story. Her bond with Nozomi is the most foundational; the two have been best friends since childhood, and that trust is the catalyst for her transformation. She maintains a close, supportive friendship with the other Cures, though her initial friction with Karen gradually turns into a reliable partnership. With Coco, she shares an unusual understanding; she is skilled at charades, and Coco can read her gestures without difficulty. Throughout the series, she matures from a somewhat reluctant hero into a confident and dependable member of the team, never losing her passionate, fiery spirit.
