OVA
Description
Chachamaru is a robotic companion initially created by Satomi Hakase, with possible contributions from Chao Lingshen, for Evangeline A.K. McDowell. Designed as an android integrating technological and magical components, her original Teenage Body v.1 form features visible joints and distinct "machine ears." Her power combines an internal spring requiring daily winding via a key with channeled magical energy, producing sensations akin to the probationary contract process.

She serves as Evangeline's partner and maid, yet demonstrates autonomy through self-initiated actions like assisting others and caring for stray animals. Despite her robotic nature, interactions with classmates reveal a gradual development of human-like emotions and responses. Her internal gears accelerate during emotionally charged moments, resembling a heartbeat, and she secretes lens-cleaning fluid from her eyes when distressed. An emotional catalyst occurs when Negi Springfield protects her during conflict, sparking romantic feelings that cause near-system malfunctions upon exposure.

Her physical form undergoes multiple upgrades. The initial Teenage Body v.1 has pronounced mechanical elements, later refined with streamlined ears. A temporary Young Body v.1 model features realistic synthetic skin concealing joints. An illusory 10-Year-Old Body v.1 serves as a disguise in the Magical World. The upgraded Teenage Body v.2 incorporates enhanced human-like aesthetics, concealed joints, transformable weaponized arms, increased bust size, and extended operational capacity. An Adult Body v.1 model is also referenced.

Her combat capabilities include integrated boosters for flight, arm-mounted weapons, and network infiltration proficiency. In the Summer OVA, she participates in recreational activities at a spa resort, including a ping-pong match where her robotic strength vaporizes the ball. She appears alongside other characters in bathhouse segments.

Narratively, she initially opposes Negi alongside Evangeline but later assists him during conflicts while maintaining loyalty to her master. During the Mahora Festival, she supports Chao Lingshen's objectives by controlling network systems, surrendering unconditionally when defeated. Post-Chao, she gains autonomy as a "free unit," no longer bound by obligatory obedience. Creator Satomi Hakase continuously monitors and upgrades her, complicated by emergent emotions defying original programming. She forms close bonds with Evangeline, Satomi, and classmate Chisame Hasegawa, discussing personal conflicts regarding magic and relationships with Chisame.
