Description
Kurokawa Ellen, alias Siren and Cure Beat, navigates a transformative arc of redemption, identity, and loyalty. Originating as the feline fairy Siren from Major Land, she once presided as the annual singer of the Melody of Happiness and mentored her childhood companion, Hummy. Overlooked by Queen Aphrodite in favor of Hummy for this sacred role, Siren’s resentment drove her to defect to Minor Land, swearing allegiance to Mephisto. Under his influence, she was brainwashed to propagate the Melody of Sadness, wielding a pendant to assume the human guise of Kurokawa Ellen and infiltrate society. Tasked with retrieving the G Clefs from protagonists Hibiki and Kanade, she conjured Negatones from dissonant musical notes—abilities later forfeited upon becoming a Pretty Cure.

A pivotal encounter with Ouji Masamune, who rescued her from a car accident, ignited self-doubt and a fragile connection to humanity. Though Mephisto’s reasserted control temporarily reversed her growth, Hummy’s steadfast loyalty shattered his hold, catalyzing Siren’s rebellion. Embracing her resolve to protect Hummy, she awakened as a Pretty Cure, destroying her pendant and permanently binding her to Ellen’s human form. Struggling with guilt, she initially rebuffed Hibiki and Kanade’s friendship, but a dire crisis compelled her to accept the Fairy Tone Lary and Cure Module, formally transforming into Cure Beat. Her combat prowess emerged through attacks like Beat Barrier and Heartful Beat Rock, channeled via the Love Guitar Rod, while her upgraded Crescendo Cure Beat form amplified her design with golden-winged accents.

Adapting to human life in Kanon Town, Ellen relied on Shirabe Otokichi for logistical support, including school enrollment. Her relationships evolved from wary tension with Hibiki and Kanade to earned trust, paralleled by a growing bond with Ouji that hinted at romance. Once calculating and aloof, her personality softened into a cheerful, inquisitive demeanor marked by naivety and a thirst for understanding.

Her nomenclature mirrors thematic contrasts: “Kurokawa” (Black River) echoes her shadowed origins, “Ellen” signals an electric vibrancy juxtaposed against a peer’s “acoustic” motif, and “Siren” alludes to mythical seductresses, reflecting her initial role as an antagonist. Visually, her evolution spans Siren’s indigo feline form, Ellen’s heart-adorned civilian attire, and Cure Beat’s frilly, music-inspired uniform with lavender hair.

In the film *Torimodose! Kokoro ga Tsunagu Kiseki no Melody*, she aids in resolving Major Land’s musical crisis, though precise contributions remain sparsely documented. Her journey culminates in acceptance within the Pretty Cure team, where protecting others and embracing forgiveness dispel her self-doubt, cementing her role as a guardian of harmony.
