Description
Basil "Buzz" Nikvest served as a lieutenant in the Branch special task force of the A.D. Police, specializing in counter-terrorism and rogue Boomer threats within Megatokyo. Possessing exceptional marksmanship, he refused to carry a sidearm stemming from a traumatic incident one year before joining Branch: he mistakenly shot and killed a child he believed was a Boomer, leading directly to his transfer. Two years before the series' events, Buzz became a widower when a violent Boomer killed his wife, compounding his trauma and reinforcing his firearm aversion. During college, he authored the thesis *The Domino Effect Explosion system*, analyzing urban infrastructure vulnerabilities. Corrupt politician Kenji Sorime later exploited these principles to orchestrate citywide bombings, destroying 90% of Boomer production facilities and killing thousands, framing Buzz for the attacks.
Within Branch, Buzz worked closely with several members. His partner was Rod Kimball, a Boomer treated as a sergeant who sacrificed himself saving Sergeant Reiko Michaelson during a helicopter assassination attempt. Buzz shared a strong rapport with electronics expert Bill Myers. Michaelson harbored unspoken romantic feelings for him, recognized by Kimball. Buzz also interacted with Branch overseer Inspector Kouji Takahashi and undercover agent Lieutenant Elza "Angel" Lynch, who investigated Genom Corporation.
Buzz confronted escalating crises: investigating illegal Boomer-suppressing drugs and rogue android incidents in 2034, and uncovering Sorime's plot to eradicate Boomers and expose corruption by 2040. After Sorime destroyed Branch headquarters, killing Takahashi, Lynch, and Myers, Buzz confronted him. Sorime taunted Buzz, confident his vow prevented him from shooting. Michaelson intervened, killing Sorime. In defiance and tribute to his fallen comrades, Buzz took Michaelson's Glock 17 and fired four additional rounds into Sorime's corpse, symbolically overcoming his trauma. This resolution marked his journey from guilt-ridden officer to decisive action.
