Movie
Description
Flappy is a flower spirit originating from the Land of Fountains, serving as a guardian fairy who partners with the human girl Hyuuga Saki. His physical form is characterized by a very pale blue-white body with sky blue markings and black eyes that often appear dark red. Distinctive features include a tail that ends in a flower-like shape, petal-shaped markings around his eyes, a matching flower bud symbol on his forehead, and a necklace that transitions from red to hot pink with a golden yellow orb at its center. He has a notable speech pattern, frequently ending his sentences with the verbal tic "-lapi".
In terms of personality, Flappy is responsible, determined, and always willing to take charge. He is not afraid to speak his mind and is fiercely committed to achieving his goals, particularly when it comes to protecting those he cares about. Despite his responsible nature, he has a dynamic relationship with his partner Saki. While they get along well and he consistently supports and defends her in moments of crisis, the two often bicker over minor issues, such as when he inadvertently causes her to oversleep by resting on her alarm clock. His care for her runs deep, as demonstrated when he stays awake through the night to tend to her while she is ill.
A persistent and defining trait of Flappy is his unspoken romantic affection for the bird spirit Choppy. He harbors a significant crush on her but is notably shy and awkward about confessing his feelings. When the subject of his crush arises, he tends to become defensive, overreact, or grow flustered. He shows her affectionate gestures and hints, though she often remains oblivious to his true intentions. By the series epilogue, it is implied that he finally manages to tell her his feelings successfully.
Flappy's role in the story is fundamental, as he is the fairy who bestows upon Saki the power to transform into a Pretty Cure. He acts as her transformation device via the Mix Commune or Splash Commune, channeling his own spiritual energy to enable her to become Cure Bloom. Later in the series, he channels the moon spirit Moop's power, allowing Saki to access an upgraded form as Cure Bright. Beyond empowering the heroines, he actively participates in combat, providing enhancements like protective shields and energy attacks. Both he and Choppy first encountered Saki and Mai as glowing orbs when the girls were nine years old at the Sky Tree, formally recruiting them as Pretty Cure five years later to defend the fountains of the World Tree from the forces of Dark Fall.
In the movie Futari wa Precure Splash Star Tick Tack Kiki Ippatsu!, Flappy retains his mobility even when time has been stopped. He follows the clock spirits Hours and Minutes into the Land of Clocks alongside Saki and Mai. During the adventure, he becomes separated from Mai within the endless maze created by the villain Sirloin. In this moment, he serves as a crucial source of wisdom and encouragement, reminding Saki that her full power and ability to escape rely on her unity and bond with her partner Mai. He later participates directly in the final confrontation, assisting in restraining Sirloin to allow the restoration of normal time.
Flappy also holds the distinction of being one of the first mascot characters in the franchise to receive an image song. His personal interests include a fondness for rice-based foods. A small physical quirk is that his ears straighten out when he is frightened or startled.
