Description
Vanilla Vartla, a dark-skinned man recognized by his distinctive afro, began as a brash and loudmouthed information broker operating within Uoodo City's black market on Melkia. His extensive connections established him as a vital intelligence source. An alliance with salvager Bouleuse Gotho drew him into Chirico Cuvie's conflicts, unexpectedly revealing competent combat skills and a previously hidden military background, demonstrated through skilled piloting of attack helicopters and military vehicles. His enthusiastic and volatile nature persisted, yet he proved reliable when others relied on him.

His relationship with Coconna evolved from belligerent sexual tension during their early adventures into marriage. Decades later, they had six children, though their marriage faced significant strain. Coconna frequently blamed Vanilla for Chirico Cuvie's continued isolation and departure, believing Chirico suffered emotionally after Fyana's loss. These arguments escalated, with Coconna throwing objects like vases and plates while expressing regret over having children with him. Despite the friction, their shared history and mutual concern for Chirico maintained their connection.

Approximately 25-30 years after the original series, coinciding with their anniversary, Gotho arranged a nostalgic trip for Vanilla and Coconna to revisit significant locations from their past adventures with Chirico. Vanilla agreed, partly motivated by the possibility of encountering Chirico. Returning to Uoodo City on Melkia, he observed the city's reconstruction, recalling specific events like stealing gold from the police and visiting establishments serving unconventional wartime fare like snakes and lizards. He sought out his old hideout, finding it still ruined, and later visited Gotho's former junkyard office. At these sites, he demonstrated perceptiveness by noticing disturbed dust, recent footprints, and inconsistencies in a Battling poster depicting a Red Shoulder Scopedog with incorrect shoulder coloration and shade, indicating recent suspicious activity.

This trip led to a reunion with Quentian mercenary Ru Shako at a Battling stadium. Vanilla recognized Shako and remarked on the Quentian's lack of aging compared to himself and Coconna. When a mysterious assassin in a Red Shoulder Custom Scopedog targeted Shako using live ammunition during a staged match, Vanilla expressed surprise at the deviation from Gotho's arrangements. He actively questioned the assassin's identity and motives for targeting Shako. While briefly speculating on Chirico's involvement, he concurred with Coconna's dismissal, knowing Chirico wouldn't attempt to kill Shako. Vanilla found Shako's stated reason for seeking Chirico—a compulsion he didn't understand—illogical. He witnessed Shako survive the assassination attempt and heard Shako's belief that Chirico would inevitably appear where conflict erupted.
