Vanilla Vartla is a brash, loudmouthed black marketeer who plied his trade in Uoodo City. His extensive underworld connections established him as a valuable information source. He initially partnered with fellow underworld figure Boleuse Gotho before both became entangled in Chirico Cuvie's conflicts. Though opportunistic, Vanilla displayed unexpected combat proficiency and piloting skills, suggesting undisclosed prior military experience, likely with the Gilgamesh military during the Hundred Years' War. His volatile enthusiasm often made him an unpredictable ally, yet he consistently supported those depending on him.

As hostilities escalated during the guerrilla war in Kummen, Vanilla agreed to join the mercenary army alongside Chirico and Gotho, signaling his growing commitment to their cause. He frequently engaged in belligerent sexual tension with teammate Coconna, a dynamic that ultimately evolved into a romantic relationship. Following the conflicts, Vanilla and Coconna married and had six children, marking his transition from years of underworld dealings and warfare into a stable family life.

Vanilla also appears in the "Big Battle" OVA, set between the conclusion of the main series arcs and Chirico's cryosleep. He remains part of Chirico's core team alongside Gotho, Coconna, Fyana, and Ru Shako, highlighting his enduring loyalty to the group through multiple conflicts.
