OVA
Description
Lamia Loveless is a fictional character from the Super Robot Wars Original Generation universe. Her designation is W17, making her the seventeenth android in the W-Series, a line of artificial beings created by the scientist Lemon Browning for the Shadow Mirror organization from a parallel world. She was originally designed to be a perfect, emotionless soldier with exceptional combat capabilities, but her story is defined by her gradual acquisition of free will and humanity.

Her background begins as a spy sent to infiltrate the Earth Federation forces, specifically the ATX Team, under the guise of a test pilot for the Angelg unit. During her initial dimensional transfer, her speech center was damaged, causing her to speak with an unusual, stilted grammar and occasional stutter—a trait that persists throughout her appearances. This defect, ironically, becomes the catalyst for her emotional development, as it forces her to interact with others in ways that reveal frustration, surprise, and eventually genuine camaraderie.

Personality-wise, Lamia starts as cold, detached, and self-identifies as a "doll" or tool for her mission. She is calm, methodical, and highly efficient. However, prolonged exposure to the sincere and idealistic members of the ATX Team and Londo Bell causes her to question the Shadow Mirror's ruthless ideology. Over time, she develops a sense of right and wrong independent of her programming. She forms a particularly close bond with Excellen Browning, whom she calls "Ms. Excell" (Ex-Oneesama in Japanese), a friendship that helps her understand human emotions. She also shows deep respect for Kyosuke Nanbu, whose determination inspires her to resist the ODE system. Despite her growing humanity, she retains a social awkwardness and difficulty grasping everyday human behavior, which often leads to comedic situations.

Her motivations evolve from simple mission completion to a desire for freedom. She publicly defects from the Shadow Mirror by self-destructing her Angelg alongside her creator Lemon and leader Vindel Mauser, declaring that she can no longer accept their methods. Lemon later rescues and repairs her, acknowledging her as the only W-Series unit to achieve true free will. Lamia then fights alongside her former enemies to stop the Shadow Mirror's final plans.

In the three-episode OVA Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Animation, set after the events of Original Generation 2, Lamia is a member of the Aggressors unit. During the Bartoll incident, she and her comrades are captured by the ODE system, a malevolent network that uses human pilots as biological cores. Because of her superior skills, Lamia is chosen to be the core of the Bartoll swarm, losing her will temporarily. She manages to resist long enough to weaken the system and is rescued by Kyosuke Nanbu's risky gambit. However, she is later captured again by the antagonist Duminuss, brainwashed, and turned into a puppet against her former allies. Ultimately, she is freed by Axel Almar and returns to her friends, with her experiences deepening her understanding of her own worth and her chosen family.

Key relationships include her creator Lemon Browning, who sees Lamia as a masterpiece but also as a daughter of sorts; Excellen Browning, her close friend and confidante; Kyosuke Nanbu, whose unwavering trust helps her break free from mind control; and Axel Almar, a fellow Shadow Mirror agent and rival who, in some timelines, destroys her or helps save her. Lamia also develops a respectful working relationship with other pilots like Latooni Subota, Arado Balanga, and Seolla Schweizer.

Her notable abilities include superb piloting skills that allow her to extract maximum performance from any machine, especially her signature Angelg and later the Vysaga. She possesses superhuman toughness, able to survive heavy damage. She is also highly intelligent, capable of complex strategizing under pressure. Her theme music is "Ash to Ash (code A.T.A.)". Throughout the series, she experiences continuous emotional growth, transitioning from a weapon without a self to a woman who values her freedom and friendships, even as her speech difficulties persist as a mark of her unique journey.
