TV-Series
Description
Mai Violet, also known as Mai Shinomiya, is introduced as the purple core soldier in Battle Spirits: Shōnen Gekiha Dan. At the start of the series, she is a recognizable public figure, operating under the net idol persona Viole Mai and maintaining a popular blog titled Purple Talk. In keeping with the aesthetic of her assigned purple attribute, which is often associated with demons and the occult, her deck reflects this darker theme, though her alignment is with the heroes. Initially, she presents a somewhat spoiled and demanding demeanor, often relying on the support of those around her, including her butler Serge, while also using card battles as a means to showcase her style and vision.

Despite this initial impression, Mai is a capable and serious battler who becomes more direct and formidable when the situation calls for it. Her motivations are rooted in a desire for self-expression and independence, as she uses the duel field as a canvas to dye the match in her own color. Her role in the story is primarily as a member of the core group of light bearers, fighting alongside Dan Bashin and the others to save the world of Grand Rolo. Over the course of the first season, she develops noticeable romantic feelings for Dan, marking the beginning of a significant relationship.

Following the events of the first series, Mai undergoes a profound transformation. Two years later in the sequel Battle Spirits Brave, she has quit her blog and began using her real surname, Shinomiya. Her appearance changes notably as she grows her hair long, and she initially steps away from card battles. However, her connection to Dan remains strong; she inadvertently pulls him into the future, which reignites his will to fight. Their relationship matures significantly in this season, becoming an official couple with an explicit love confession and an implied off-screen kiss. This happiness is met with tragedy when Dan sacrifices himself to save the world, leaving Mai devastated. Her grief leads her to temporarily side with the Mazoku faction, aligning with the character Barone, before eventually returning to her allies.

In the later timeline of Saga Brave, set ten years after the previous events, Mai has developed into a doctor working in a war zone, also utilizing her skills for intelligence work to monitor threats. Having moved past her initial guilt, she has learned to live with the loss of Dan, though she still loves him. Their final reunion is temporary and poignant, representing an acceptance of their separated fates. As a battler, Mai is proficient with purple decks, which often focus on control, manipulation, and occult themes. Her most notable ability lies not just in her battle skills, but in her resilience and capacity for profound personal change, evolving from a spoiled net idol into a mature and dedicated professional.
