Description
Tōma Tachibana, a main protagonist, entered a blended family at age six when his widowed father Eisuke married Mayumi Sawai. She brought her children, Sōichirō and Otomi, into the household. Tōma shares the same birthday as Sōichirō, born ten minutes later. His biological mother, Naoko Tachibana, died when he was three.
Possessing a friendly and outgoing nature, Tōma naturally attracts people. A fierce childhood rivalry with Sōichirō determined their baseball positions; Tōma secured the pitcher role through a combination of superior pitching speed and winning a decisive rock-paper-scissors match, establishing their battery dynamic.
During middle school at Meisei, the coach favored Daisuke Nikaidou over Tōma. Persevering through this, he ultimately became the ace pitcher in his final year. His analytical and strategic baseball approach reflects independence, balanced by a wry sense of humor and strong interpersonal connections.
Tōma shares a close bond with his stepsister Otomi. He helped her overcome shyness and fear of strangers after her father's death. Otomi remains his first and most devoted fan, preparing special food and attending his games. Tōma pitches his best when she watches, though he dislikes her childhood nickname "Tō-chan."
His relationship with Sōichirō extends beyond rivalry. As his catcher, Sōichirō strategically supports Tōma's pitching and exhibits protectiveness toward Otomi. Their partnership is central to Meisei High School's baseball ambitions. Tōma also shares an unrecalled childhood connection with Haruka Ohyama, whom he met at his mother's funeral when both were three.
On the field, Tōma is recognized for his powerful and accurate pitching arm. His dedication involves relentless training to refine his skills, fueled by a competitive spirit and a belief that hard work is essential regardless of innate talent. He approaches challenges with determination.
Trivia notes include his proficiency in rock-paper-scissors, which influenced his pitcher role, and a childhood habit of sticking out his tongue while concentrating. The family dog is a Samoyed named Punch.
Throughout high school, Tōma continues developing as Meisei's ace pitcher, navigating team dynamics, personal growth, and the school's baseball legacy while maintaining the key relationships that shape his identity.
