Description
Kyosuke Nanbu is a central character in the Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Animation. Standing 180 centimeters tall and 22 years old, he holds the rank of Second Lieutenant and serves as the field leader of the ATX Team, operating under the call sign Assault 1.
Born in a space colony, Kyosuke graduated from military academy before traveling to Earth. During this journey, his shuttle crashed upon atmospheric entry in an accident that killed all aboard except for himself and a fellow cadet, Excellen Browning. Kyosuke shielded Excellen from the wreckage, suffering only minor injuries. This incident proved to be the first of several extraordinary survivals; he later escaped another near-fatal accident when the Wildraubtier unit he was test-piloting exploded mid-flight, leaving him with only a few broken ribs. These events cemented his reputation for possessing an uncanny, almost inhuman luck.
On the surface, Kyosuke appears stoic, reserved, and unemotional. He is a man of few words who almost never expresses his thoughts or feelings openly and rarely complains, preferring to assess situations calmly before acting decisively. To others, this demeanor can seem cold or apathetic, a stark contrast to his girlfriend Excellen's lively personality. However, beneath this exterior lies a quietly hot-blooded individual, described as a "quietly burning热血汉". This passion emerges most clearly on the battlefield, where he follows a philosophy of direct, head-on assault, believing that any armor can be pierced. While he generally maintains his composure, those who truly anger him, such as his former commander Ingram or superior Hans Wieper, can provoke a terrifying, cold fury that makes him dangerous to friend and foe alike.
Kyosuke is a natural strategist and tactician, possessing sharp insight and the ability to predict enemy movements and formulate optimal battle plans. During the L5 Campaign, his command abilities were recognized when he was appointed field commander, leading his forces to victory. One of his most defining traits is his love of gambling. He does not gamble recklessly but instead habitually bets on the worst odds, applying this mindset to combat situations where he devises high-risk, high-reward strategies to achieve victory. This calculated daring has earned him the nickname "the Gambling God".
The most significant relationship in Kyosuke's life is with Excellen Browning, his fellow survivor of the shuttle crash. Although he rarely displays affection openly and often ignores her teasing, he cares for her more deeply than anything else. When Excellen is captured or brainwashed by enemies, his suppressed emotions surface as he works to save her, revealing the depth of his devotion. He also shares a complex bond with his former ATX Team leader, Sanger Zonvolt. Even after Sanger's defection to the Divine Crusaders, Kyosuke respects his former commander's convictions and does not hesitate to face him as an enemy on the battlefield. As a mentor, he guides younger pilots like Brooklyn Luckfield, tempering their impulsiveness with his disciplined example.
Throughout the story, Kyosuke demonstrates remarkable resilience and growth. He consistently refuses to waver in the face of betrayal, whether from Sanger, Ingram, or the android Lamia Loveless, maintaining his commitment to the mission and his comrades. After the end of the DC War, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and tasked with mopping up remaining enemy forces while leading the ATX Team. When Sanger left, Kyosuke stepped up as the team's permanent leader, embracing the responsibility of command.
As a pilot, Kyosuke is exceptionally skilled in close-quarters combat. His primary mobile weapon is the PTX-003C Alteisen, a bulky, heavily armored real robot designed specifically for him by Dr. Marion Radom. The Alteisen, built using only pure Earth technology and no extraterrestrial enhancements, is considered an unbalanced, flawed machine by many, but Kyosuke is the only pilot capable of using it effectively. The unit's design philosophy emphasizes overwhelming firepower and thick armor to enable frontal assaults. After the Alteisen is nearly destroyed in combat, it is upgraded into the PTX-003C-SP1 Alteisen Riese, which further enhances its strengths and weaknesses.
