Description
Nakano-san, whose full name is Kazuo Nakano, is a recurring supporting character in the Kinnikuman franchise who appears in Kinnikuman Nisei Ultimate Muscle 2 as a color commentator for the wrestling matches. Outside of the fictional world, his character is a caricature of the real-life editor of Weekly Shonen Jump, which explains his background: Nakano-san is the vice editor-in-chief of Weekly Shonen Jump and the editor-in-chief of Fresh Jump. He is a short, middle-aged man who is often referred to as Aderans Nakano-san due to his trademark wig, which frequently slips off or falls during episodes.
Nakano-san is portrayed as foolish, eccentric, and utterly devoted to watching choujin wrestling. He regularly neglects his editorial duties to attend matches, sometimes going to extreme lengths such as selling his wife to afford tickets for major events. He attempts to involve himself in the action, but his interference always ends with him being quickly knocked away by the fighters. Despite being regarded by others as an idiot and a nuisance, he is usually the first to laugh at the protagonists' antics, especially those of the younger Kinnikuman.
His role in Ultimate Muscle 2 remains consistent with his earlier appearances: he provides color commentary alongside the announcer Yoshigai, offering enthusiastic but often clueless observations. In the English dub, he is called Doc Nakano, though he holds no medical qualifications. Nakano-san has no fighting abilities and relies entirely on his persistence and odd humor. He does not undergo significant character development throughout the series, remaining a steady source of comedic relief. His key relationships include his friendship with Yoshigai, his distant but tolerant connection with his wife Kimiko, and a long-running dynamic of mockery and exasperation with the main choujin characters, particularly Mantaro Kinniku (Kid Muscle) and his father Suguru.
