Description
Emily is a young character who appears in the anime Bakugan: Armored Alliance. She is introduced as the younger sister of Magnus Black, a rival to the main protagonist Dan Kouzo in previous seasons. Prior to the events of Armored Alliance, Emily had suffered from a serious ailment from a very young age, which kept her bedridden for much of her life. This condition prevented her from being an active Bakugan brawler, though she was aware of the world and her brother's involvement in it.

In terms of personality, Emily is portrayed as gentle, kind-hearted, and deeply sensitive. Her primary character trait is her intense reluctance to cause harm. This is most clearly demonstrated during her early training, where she refuses to throw her Bakugan onto a core, choosing instead to run up to it because she does not want to be mean or hurt her partner. She struggles with the fundamental concept of Bakugan battling as a competitive activity where opponents attack each other, showing confusion when told that battling is both fun and serious. Despite her soft nature, she possesses a determined and persistent streak, especially when it comes to understanding her Bakugan and improving as a brawler.

Emily's core motivation stems from her desire to connect with her Bakugan, a uniquely colored pink Haos-type creature named Webbam. Unlike standard white Haos Bakugan, Webbam is pink because Emily painted her that color, her favorite. She challenges Dan Kouzo, whom she considers the strongest brawler, not for personal glory but because Webbam has become cranky and stressed out from a lack of real combat. Her goal is to help her partner by learning how to battle properly, even if the confrontational nature of it frightens her.

Within the story, Emily serves as a new brawler who comes under the tutelage of the main protagonist team, The Awesome Ones. Her role highlights the learning curve and emotional considerations of becoming a Bakugan battler, contrasting with more experienced characters. She is initially a non-combatant due to her illness but becomes an active brawler in Armored Alliance. Her early battles are learning experiences where she must overcome her fear of hurting her partner, even as her partner Webbam shows a bottled-up desire to fight aggressively.

Her key relationships revolve around her brother and her mentors. Her relationship with Magnus is defined by mutual care; while he travels constantly and seeks to give her the best, she worries about the cost his actions have on him. Despite his absence, she does not feel lonely as she is treated kindly by her dorm group. Her relationship with Dan Kouzo is central to her development. He becomes her primary instructor and, despite her initial approach to battling, he pushes her by not holding back, teaching her that true respect for a Bakugan involves letting them fight with full strength.

Emily undergoes significant development from a passive observer to an active battler. Initially scared and confused by the concept of battle, she struggles with Webbam as their conflicting approaches cause issues; Webbam is so pent up that she ignores Emily's pleas to stop during a match. After Dan defeats Webbam to prove a point about the nature of battling, Emily has a breakthrough. She realizes that being scared is acceptable but that her partner needs her to engage in battle, leading her to enthusiastically challenge Dan to a rematch that continues late into the night. This marks her transition from someone who avoids battle to someone who embraces it as a way to understand her partner. By the end of the series, her skills have grown to the point where she can defeat Dan in a battle. She also expands her abilities as a brawler by obtaining a second Bakugan named Chrissy, learning how to brawl with multiple partners as a team.

Regarding her notable abilities, Emily's initial skill set is minimal, as she has never battled anyone before facing Dan. Her unique approach involves trying to shield her Bakugan from harm, which she learns to abandon in favor of more direct and effective combat strategies. Tactically, her Bakugan Webbam is shown to be capable of fighting with range and agility, dodging powerful attacks. Her true ability lies in her deep empathy and her rapid learning curve, allowing her to evolve from a timid novice to a capable battler who understands the aggressive yet cooperative nature of the sport.
