Description
Zenon, the Great Demon King, traces his origins to the ancient cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Once a close ally of Dante in their human lives, he later betrays Dante, siding with God to seize divine power and ultimately overthrow divine tyranny. This act condemns Dante to 2,000 years of imprisonment in Himalayan ice, while Zenon remains bound to God as a reluctant double agent, coerced by threats of eternal damnation.

In the 2002 anime, Zenon adopts a human disguise as a fortune teller, spying for God while covertly assisting Satanists. Tormented by guilt over his betrayal, he confronts Dante’s reincarnation, Ryo Utsugi, in a burning city, urging him to ally with God. Dante defeats Zenon, cleaving him in half, though Zenon’s dying words express hope for God’s downfall and caution against threats like Adam and Eve.

Across other media, Zenon’s legacy evolves posthumously. In *Violence Jack*, his divided corpse transforms into Zubaban, a samurai entity, and the Slum King, whose destruction allows Zenon to reform as a multi-headed dragon demon later vanquished by Devilman. The *Devilman* series reimagines him as a colossal, multi-headed servant of Satan, broadcasting global demonic invasions and hinting at Satan’s conflicted ties to humanity. *Devilman Lady* depicts his frozen remains fracturing into identities like Judah Hiroka and Maria.

*Shin Violence Jack* portrays Zenon’s essence as the Skull Castle, a sentient fortress inflicting torment and channeling the Skull King’s wrath. Its destruction unveils ties to Akira Fudo and Miki Makimura, anchoring Zenon to cosmic strife. In *Devilman Crybaby*, he resurfaces briefly as a serpentine mount ridden by Satan during apocalyptic warfare, emphasizing his timeless influence.

Zenon’s narrative weaves themes of betrayal, regret, and cyclical conflict. His millennia-spanning machinations shape events in *Demon Lord Dante*, *Devilman*, and related works, his fragmented existence and shifting allegiances mirroring the moral complexities of battling divine and demonic forces.
