Description
Sarukoji, known alternatively as Sarkozy or by the nickname "Saru" (translating to "monkey"), is a cyborg imprisoned in the Bug Correctional Facility. The governing system labeled him a "bug" for non-compliance with societal order, confining him to this escape-proof complex submerged beneath a lake. He warns Kaburagi about the futility of resistance during the latter's incarceration, highlighting the inmates' grim existence.

Sarukoji’s digital avatar presents a slightly overweight humanoid with vivid green skin and cropped brown hair. His face remains permanently flushed red due to chronic intoxication, and his left undertooth juts prominently—a visual testament to his perpetual drunkenness and disheveled state.

His personality centers on profound cowardice and submissiveness. He evades confrontations with stronger figures, displaying a pushover nature that leaves him vulnerable to manipulation. Yet, he exhibits resourcefulness in smuggling goods and contraband, earning utility among fellow prisoners. His signature skill involves fermenting and distilling alcohol from processed organic waste—primarily feces—freely shared to bolster his popularity. He lacks any combat aptitude.

Relationships within the facility paint a complex picture. While perceived as harmless and helpful for provisioning supplies, he falls prey to manipulators like Turkey. Exploiting Sarukoji’s craving for validation, Turkey dangles the promise of heroism to coerce his cooperation in a scheme that betrays Kaburagi and the facility’s rebellion.

Sarukoji’s character evolves during the Gadoll factory assault. Witnessing Kaburagi’s defiance against oppression ignites his resolve. Facing the fallout of his inadvertent betrayal under Turkey’s influence, he seeks redemption. In a decisive act of sacrifice, Sarukoji detonates the Gadoll factory’s reactor core—destroying the facility and neutralizing the Gadoll threat. Positioned within the reactor chamber, this action saves his allies, cementing his metamorphosis from passive coward to committed freedom fighter. His death concludes his arc, affirming his newfound courage and loyalty to the cause.
