Pandora belonged to Germany's affluent Heinstein family. As a child, exploring a derelict building on the estate, she discovered a sealed box bearing Athena's seal. Driven by curiosity, she opened it, releasing the twin gods Hypnos and Thanatos. They revealed Hades would reincarnate as her brother and tasked her with protecting him until the final battle, promising eternal life. When Hades was born, his defensive cosmos annihilated all life at Heinstein Castle except Pandora, transforming the estate into a place of death. She dedicated herself to finding and safeguarding Hades' reincarnated form. Years later, on a rainy Tokyo night, Pandora encountered young Ikki holding his infant brother Shun. Declaring Shun chosen as Hades' vessel, she faced fierce resistance from Ikki despite torture. Unable to kill Shun, Pandora placed a pendant inscribed "Yours to keep" on him, permanently binding Hades' soul to Shun's body. She erased Ikki's memory of the event, leading him to believe the pendant was a memento from their mother. As Hades' commander, Pandora led the Specters during the invasion of Athena's Sanctuary. She enforced strict loyalty to Hades, exemplified when she tortured Wyvern Radamanthys for disobeying orders by sending Specters to observe resurrected Gold Saints. Hades granted her a necklace enabling travel between realms like the world of the living, the Underworld (Meikai), and Elysion. Prolonged servitude cost her the ability to see color, leaving her vision monochromatic. During the Sanctuary conflict, Pandora confronted Phoenix Ikki in the Underworld. Witnessing his unwavering resolve, she gave him her necklace so he could reach Elysion alive. This act restored her color vision but was deemed treason by Thanatos, who executed her with divine power. She died in Ikki's arms. In the spin-off *The Lost Canvas*, set during the 18th-century Holy War, Pandora displayed heightened hysteria and paranoia in her devotion to Hades. Manipulated by Hypnos and Thanatos, she sealed Hades away to focus him on creating the "Lost Canvas," a painting meant to bring death to the world. She was devastated to learn that Alone, not Hades, had been her companion. Consumed by hatred for Alone, she mobilized Hades' army and punished defiance harshly, such as using her "Noble Venom" technique to inflict excruciating pain on Harpy Valentine. Her backstory in this timeline revealed a tragic connection to Tenma, the Pegasus Saint. Pandora's childhood friend, Partita, was killed on her orders after she falsely accused Partita of stealing Hades' soul. Years later, Partita—now a Specter—mortally wounded Pandora during a confrontation. Tenma shielded Pandora from a second attack, and as she lay dying, she witnessed their battle. Pandora later recovered and embarked on a quest to find Alone. Pandora possessed a deity-level cosmos but lacked physical strength. Her primary weapons included a staff (or trident) firing energy bursts powerful enough to shatter Gold Cloths, a harp whose music tortured listeners, and a ring materializing serpents to restrain opponents. She could teleport at near-light speed. Her abilities were largely derived from artifacts bestowed by Hypnos and Thanatos, such as the interdimensional necklace and the serpent ring. Her character drew from Greek mythology, particularly the tale of Pandora's box. Like her namesake, her curiosity unleashed divine entities (Hypnos and Thanatos) who became her tormentors. A narrative reversal occurred when she gave her necklace to Ikki—an act contrasting the mythological Pandora's receipt of gifts. The loss of her color vision may reference cinematic adaptations like *Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life*, where Pandora's sight causes suffering.
