Description
Phoenix is an Autobot Pretender who pursued Decepticon Pretenders to Earth during the Stone Age as part of Metalhawk's team. Upon arrival, the Autobot Pretenders adopted human disguises to blend in, guide early human society, and combat Decepticons terrorizing humans as monstrous entities. These ancient conflicts inspired Earth legends before the Autobots sealed their enemies away.
In his human guise, Phoenix lived as a telecommunications engineer at a German aviation facility, utilizing his expertise as a communications specialist. His European location often isolated him from teammates operating in Japan and America. He excelled at intercepting and deciphering Decepticon transmissions, frequently lecturing on codebreaking techniques, though high volumes of communications data could overwhelm him.
Wielding a "Snake Rod" whip in combat, Phoenix manipulated it with fluid precision to generate powerful jetstreams for his "Cloudraker" attack, obliterating opponents with wind force. He transformed into a Cybertronic jet capable of high-speed aerial maneuvers. When the energy-being Devil Z freed the Decepticon Pretenders, Phoenix rejoined the fight. He engaged in dogfights against Decepticons like Blood, rescued hostages from jumbo jets, and helped suppress Destroid outbreaks in Rome.
Later, Phoenix received blueprints for the Godbomber drone from Grand Maximus, Fortress Maximus' brother, designed to upgrade the Autobot Godmaster Ginrai. Shifting focus with the other Pretenders, he helped construct Godbomber despite Decepticon interference, enabling Ginrai to combine with it and become God Ginrai. During this period, Phoenix occasionally lightened tense situations, such as presenting a carved wooden doll of Ginrai during strategic discussions.
After Godbomber's deployment, Phoenix's frontline involvement diminished. He participated sporadically in battles, including an unsuccessful ocean skirmish against Overlord and a clash with Decepticon Pretenders in Latin America. Following Devil Z's defeat – which separated human partners from their Transtectors, granting the latter independent life – Phoenix chose to remain on Earth indefinitely in human form rather than rejoin Autobot forces in space.
In the *Super-God Masterforce* comic adaptation, Phoenix appeared during the creation of the Headmaster Juniors and aided in repelling Decepticon assaults. During the final battle against Devil Z, he and the Pretenders intercepted the villain's energy-absorbing beam to protect allies. Post-battle, he again opted to stay on Earth. His Pretender shell resembles a human in red and gray armored space gear secured by a blue belt and helmet.
