Hailing from Spain, Capricorn Shura trained in his homeland and was born on January 12. He stands 1.86 meters tall and weighs 83 kilograms. As the Gold Saint guarding Capricorn Temple, Shura manifests the Excalibur technique—cosmic energy blades forged from his arms and legs. This technique delivers unparalleled cutting force, capable of slicing through nearly any substance, including the legendary Dragon Shield.
In the original narrative, Shura initially served the Sanctuary under the false Pope, Gemini Saga. During this allegiance, he pursued and fatally wounded Sagittarius Aiolos as Aiolos protected the infant Athena. Shura later battled Dragon Shiryu in Capricorn Temple. Shiryu deliberately allowed Shura to pierce his chest, enabling Shiryu to sever Shura’s arm and unleash a mutual annihilation attack. Confronting death, Shura realized his misplaced loyalty. He redeemed himself by transferring his Gold Cloth to Shiryu and propelling him back to Earth, acknowledging Shiryu’s devotion to Athena and justice.
During the Hades Chapter - Sanctuary arc, Hades revived Shura alongside Aquarius Camus and Gemini Saga as Specters to infiltrate Athena’s Sanctuary and assassinate her, though their true loyalty remained with Athena. The trio confronted Virgo Shaka at Virgo Temple. Recognizing their collective might, Shaka challenged them to deploy the forbidden Athena Exclamation. Shura initially resisted due to concerns over dishonor but ultimately participated, resulting in Shaka’s death. Shura expressed remorse for this necessary act. The group advanced toward Athena but was intercepted by Scorpio Milo, Leo Aiolia, and Aries Mu, triggering another Athena Exclamation clash with an unresolved outcome. Shura’s spirit later aided Shiryu in the Poseidon arc, reinforcing Shiryu’s Excalibur mastery.
Expanded media elaborates on Shura’s journey. In Saint Seiya: Episode G, his loyalty to Athena stayed unwavering. After uncovering Saga’s treachery, Saga’s evil half subjected Shura to the Demon Emperor Fist, enforcing obedience while his inner devotion persisted. This reconciled earlier depictions of conflicting allegiances. Soul of Gold flashbacks revealed Shura’s enduring regret over Aiolos’s death. He sought atonement with Leo Aiolia, Aiolos’s brother, ultimately sacrificing himself to shield Aiolia during their Asgard battle while pleading for forgiveness.
Shura’s legacy connects to other Capricorn Saints. In Saint Seiya: Next Dimension’s 18th-century setting, his mentor was Capricorn Izo, a samurai-inspired Saint adhering to Bushido. Izo wielded a katana-like Excalibur manifestation, noted by Cygnus Hyoga as potentially surpassing Shura’s version. Though distinct individuals, this lineage highlights the Excalibur technique’s significance within Capricorn heritage.
